Now the REAL fun begins...
Fire investigators will try to determine the source of the fire.
If it was from a stored RV: that owner had better have his liability insurance up to date...
If it started in the facility: the lawsuits will take yers...
The facility owner will say that they don't have Garagekeeper's liability coverage for the stored RVs, and that the owners store their rigs at their own risk.

That is bad news for all of the individual owners.

It's been many years ago that I rented space for storage of boats and RV's. At that time renters had to make sure they had their own Ins. And I had an agreement they signed stating that.

You can't Ins. some one else's property.

That's called having an "insurable interest" in the property.
But in this case: that principle doesn't apply.
You wouldn't be insuring their property for yourself: you would be insuring it to indemnify the actual owners against negligence on your part; that causes the loss of their property.

That is probably correct now. Back in the day that I had the rental building I'm don't think they had was the case. I know I went over the situation with our Ins. carrier and had an attorney draw up the contract, all seem good at that time as far as having my butt covered.

Was this for an apartment or office building?
The best you do do in that instance would be to require that the tenants carry liability coverage.

Normally I'd never say, "Thank goodness my rig is in the shop," but I rent one the covered spaces that burned up. My new 2021 Thor Chateau would have been dust.

Everything happens for a reason.

But hopefully the slide is fixed once and for all.
