Point taken. My comment was just light-hearted humor. I'm one of those fortunate peasants who purchased their "paint unworthy" coaches before the current group of peasants were taken to the cleaners with these insane price hikes!
Another way to look at the paint vs fiberglass/clearcoat scenario is to weigh the "cost vs perceived value". I could have spent substantial extra money on full body paint. No doubt that paint is extraordinarily beautiful, AND keeps it's gloss much longer - required maintenance on both understood. There's plenty evidence of cracked decals and chalking fiberglass/clearcoat on unmaintained motorhomes. Neglected paint will obviously fare MUCH better.
Economically full body paint was a low priority for me... I considered it a poor use of funds for OUR use case. Several things I considered...
I approached our MH purchase the same as any major expenditure. It's a commodity intended to fulfill a desire for recreational travel. Practical use and our convenience were priorities. The life expectancy of our motorhome FAR exceeds it's anticipated practical use by us. It's NOT a financial investment (actually the opposite), but rather a tool for helping us enjoy our remaining healthy years - a reward for our hard work.
The impetus for our purchase aligned with statistical evidence of "lack of longevity" on the male side of my family tree. Or in simple language... Travel and enjoy yourself NOW, or wait for a future that may never come.
To that end - I hope EVERYONE stays healthy and is able to fulfill those travel dreams! Do it while you can!!
