Rotting In stairwell

Has anyone else had the wood on the sides and under the bottom step rot away? I was cleaning the stairs and removed the bottom rubber mat only to realize the 3/4” plywood base between the rubber and the steel housing for the stairwell is completely rotted and disintegrating. It came out in bits and pieces. Also the wood behind the carpeted walls of the area has rotted away as well. My unit is a 2017 Axis 25.3. Such a bummer to see that happening so fast.
Any constructive remedies appreciated. I’m planning to rip it out and put something more durable in its place and re-carpet.

Horse ranch supply(try farmtek polymax) places sells hdpe sheets in 1/16th to 1 inch thick.
No water problems, doesn't warp easily, cuts perfectly, mills nicely, taps perfectly bends and curves and stays in the shape you want with a bit of heat(235°f is from memory, double check)
I will never ever replace rv plywood or press board with anything else.
