Slide awning position swap
On the Omni the slide awnings have an added awning rail installed on the side of the RV. All well and not so good because where they added this awning rail at the factory the awning itself has no slope and as such collects water. All water even the A/C condensation and puddles up. That creates quiet a bath and splash when the slides are brought in. It also is stretching the fabric, staining the material and probably lead to premature failure. It's especially bad on the larger awning since due to size the awning tube tends to bow in the middle aggravating the slack in the fabric and sagging. The full length awning rail is just 3" above the one the factory added so I don't know what they didn't use it instead of adding one which takes tome and money, AND holes in the side of the RV.
I'm considering removing the slide awning, repositioning it to the regular awning rail which will give the material some slope and shed water. I looked at some of the manufacturers installation instructions and the Lippert Solera slide awning rail should be 3-6" above the roller tube. Dometic and A&E show a less con conclusive distance but graphically show the rail higher. The patio awning does use the main awning rail. I'm also planning to install the Trim-Lok gutter/drip rail above the awning rail, so hopefully that will help also.
EDIT adding, there wasn't a question in my original post but does anyone know of a reason why this isn't feasible, or why thor wouldn't use an existing awning rail rather than add one?
