USAA insurance question?

Hi
I see ads all the time for military.
My Dad was Air Force so I think eligible.
We have Farm Bureau in NM.
Wondering how USAA is with Motorhome coverage for you all?

USAA does not insure motorhomes any more. They shuttle us to Progressive in 2014. They also no longer insure special interest vehicles (golf carts, four wheelers, snowmobiles).

Unless your father joins USAA you are not eligible.

I have never found USAA better or cheaper than other major carriers. Every quote I ever got from them was always 15 to 20 percent higher than Progressive. Allstate and State Farm. Rip off as far as I’m concerned.

USAA is a mutual company; therefor, there are rebates on a percentage of what would be consider profit. Even though my insurance premiums are just over $2,000, last year I received a rebate of over $600.

The motorhome is insured by The Hartford and American Collectors handles all the collectable junk.

We get The Harford crap all the time in the mail. I called a while back and the rep told me they don't insure motorhomes.

AARP RV Insurance From The Hartford to Keep You Moving

Your recreational vehicle (RV) is more than a car, but it’s not quite a house. This can make it challenging to find the right coverage for your home on wheels at an affordable rate. That’s where we can help. Whether you need RV insurance, motorhome insurance or trailer insurance, the AARP® Auto

I have had one collision claim on the MH in July 2016, a side swipe. I chose to have the coach repaired by Iron Horse RV. The Hartford paid the $10,300 on the $11,300 claim. A local estimator came to the Village and wrote up the estimate for the side and rear repair. From the time of the collision until the coach was fully repaired and painted was 3 weeks

My yearly insurance policy cost has decreased by 20% as the value of my coach has decreased by 45%. My deductible is now $400.

You are correct in that you must join AARP before you can purchase a policy.

The Hartford here in our zip code offers excellent vehicle rates, but fails to be even close on being competitive for homeowners coverage.

My renters insurance is with USAA and not The Hartford for that reason. The Hartford does not offer "agreed valve" auto and collectables policies, but American Collectors does.

We are AARP and have been for years. They are the 1st to let you know at 50...you're old. It was through AARP that the ads came from. My wife must have just gotten an idiot on the phone that had no clue what the company did.

Progressive

I just switched everything I have, except house insurance, to progressive. Saving a bunch of money.

USAA unfortunately was 30% higher on my vehicles, and since my home is a log home, that it’s me. I have to go with Rsnch insurance.

USAA Not For Me!

I tried getting quotes from USAA a few times over the years and they were always much higher than the leading company I was with. I tried them in the past for Home, car, motorcycle, boat, RV, golf cart, Polaris RZR and everytime they were higher and sometimes much higher. As a vet (someone they claim to cater to) I was actually turned off by them.

As above about usaa.
Always wrong pricing.
A bit haughty.
I don't need the 'favor' they use to prey upon some who don't shop.

I certainly don't care for cheap so this isn't a price debate.
I also don't care for the added cost to buy a heritage 'benefit of your service' brand.

But
Those with it swear it's the best.
And
I don't need their loans.

My father was in the Army for 30 years. I've had USAA car insurance when I turned 18 (48 years ago), USAA home and motorhome (through Progressive) coverage for 20+ years. I've had three motorhome claims and all were resolved within a couple weeks. USAA may not be the cheapest, but IMO they are the best at communication and quickest at claim resolution. Progressive has a specific department for USAA members with motorhomes. https://www.progressive.com/usaa/

You're also eligible for GEICO. I have my MH insured with them. No problems.

I’m with you. My dad was career Navy and I have had USAA since I started to drive at 18. Later I went in the Air Force as an officer and have continued USAA all through my driving history. In fact, I have never had any insurance except USAA or whatever they direct me to (Progressive for RV). I get $500 to $800 back every year depending on the year and what natural catastrophes they have had to pay out that year. And now that I have been with them this many years I get an additional about $400 rebate for more than 40 consecutive years.

Any time I have shopped and they ask my current insurer - when I tell them USAA they tell me they will not be able to beat their prices. And to top that off, you cannot beat their service, speed, and professionalism.
