I agree: being able to put a roof over it would be sweet!
But it would req8ire putting down too much blacktop for a path onto it.

I’d love to keep mine indoors or even under a roof. Alas it lives outdoors, on gravel and with no hookups. It costs $140/month! I found one lot not too far away that had a carport like cover but there was no traffic control or security and was a real dump. They wanted $200/mo. Nope!

I had a 14x36x12' high steel carport type structure built to store my Thor 29M. It has a roof, two full sides a partial wall on one end and open on the other. It cost$7500 including tax and erection. I had plenty of room to build it on my property and I did all site prep myself. I also wired a 20a outlet inside. I plan to own my motorhome for at least 10 years so that is 7500/10=750/year or $62.50/month for 10 years. The total cost of the building works out to about 9% of the cost of our motorhome. I feel there are many advantages to having nearby covered storage and even though it is not totally enclosed I feel my coach is adequately protected from the weather. I anticipate that if I sell the motorhome in 10 years the carport will have paid for itself in convenience alone, not to mention value added due to reduced exterior weathering and avoiding other problems related to 10 years of outdoor storage. Plus, after 10 years I will still have the building.

all interesting posts.. I lean towards keeping it at home somehow so that you can work on it and check it! ..This post is great :
If you are infrequent users, why not rent one when you want to hit the road. It would probably be cheaper and you wouldn't have to worry about storage or the effect of the weather.
I have had a number of coaches parked in my driveway for the last 30 years and honestly, the weather doesn't affect the appearance that much. They get washed before and after each trip and the roof gets scrubbed twice a year when I inspect the dicor. They are loaded and ready to go at all times. When we worked, we would leave on Friday night after work and come back on Sunday morning. Any trip away was worth the time and effort and the memories made with our daughter and then grand kids will last for the rest of our and their lifetimes.

We store ours in our backyard and had an RV Shed built. We added landscaping fabric on the sides to keep sun off it. I can't get the image to post but if you want to see a picture, message me and I'll try to find a way.

Since 2006, I was fortunate to have indoor dry storage for my RV('s) (an old cotton warehouse) at a very reasonable rate. Unless we were using or maintaining the RV, it didn't see the light of day. It showed too .. when we sold our last it looked near-new.
Literally weeks after purchasing our current A.C.E. 30.2, the owner of our storage spot sold the warehouse & we got kicked out ... the RV has been in our driveway ever since.
Storing the RV in the driveway is not a long-term solution. As well, because of my lot & neighborhood, it would be difficult to build a garage/erect a cover without violating some sort of rule or having it devalue the property. Living in a rural area, I've found no where else to rent a dry-storage spot that's not hours away.
I feel like I'm stuck with the idea of a gravel pad in the side-yard & a fabric cover .... or, either just getting out of the RV as I'm not really willing to let the sun take its toll 365-days a year on such an asset.
How or where do you folks store your RV when your not using it??

Storage
I didn't think I had it so good until I read these posts. I found a covered spot about 5 miles from the house. 24/7 keypad access. I can run a cord to keep the batteries up and there is water if I need it. At $80 a month that's not bad. We camp year round , yeah, camp with 50 amp service, a 40 inch TV and a refrigerator. Camping is in a tent. Too old for that now.

For a covered spot with electric, that's a really good deal!

Blessed
This thread makes me glad I am on a farm with room for buildings.
We have a 40'x60' pole barn on this farm. It houses the RV with a 50 amp outlet. Our bass boat, the Yukon, one Kubota with the batwing and a 22' utility trailer. We have two metal buildings that house the Harley the three razr's, wife's Jeep and a zero turn Deere.
I have my tool boxes in the barn with the RV so my maintenance and projects are handy.
The camper stays leveled and on shore power anytime it isn't used.
Guess I would rather swallow hard once than every month for a storage fee.

Mine in a storage facility about 3 miles away. Access 24/7 with keypad code. 20 amp power. It is 15x40’. The facility has a great dump station and water for flushing the system. I pay $190 a month and glad to have it. A covered shed is $75/month.

After reading all these posts about the cost of storage I am glad I have free storage at home on a concrete pad with water, sewage and electricity. If I had to pay to store it, then I wouldn't own it.

We live in a midsize city that by ordinance only allows you to have your rig in the front of the home up to 72 hours at a time. I live in a retirement community and have no side or back yard. So a 7 min drive to storage.

We live on an acre in Southern California just north of San Diego. Our property is on a slight incline, so we had a pad graded and put down gravel. Storage building houses the John Deere riding mower that was in my workshop!
Metal cover would be nice, but we spent extra on our 2021 Thor 28A to get the solar panel installed. A cover would shade that.

We store at home. To be honest, I don't worry about what will happen from it being outside. To further highlight that point we park it under a very large Cedar Elm tree With that said, I wash and wax everything I own like religion and the RV is no different.
We were able to secure two permits from the city to build a 13' added lane to our existing drive way, 50/30/20 amp Power pedestal and a new rolling gate to open fence on one side of the coach to our rear yard and pool Our HOA had no rule against it, and we have only RV in the neighborhood. It is going on two years now. The way we use our RV and they way I am in and out of it all of the time, I don't see how I could manage if RV was stored at a facility. For those that remember, I bought the largest RV possible to fit with the design specifications we had to keep it at home
Cost per month: $0
Investment: $4,500 Depreciate usable life 10 years $37 / month

Mine lives inside.
For the price of indoor storage at the prices some of you say, you could build a hellofa garage....
I wouldn't have an rv unless it had a home at home.
(The rv picture is of when we first brought it home. The neighbors broke into the shop and set up a surprise 'congratulations' party.)

Ok, so, I'm blessed. I have a 45' RV garage with full hookups at the house. We also have a 40x60 hangar at a mountain Airpark vacation property that also has full RV hookups. Smartest thing I ever did when we built those was put in the hookups.
