Camper World Parts Price Gouging?

I bought a RV from Camper World. I went to camper world and got a quote for some new AGM 6 volt batteries. They quoted me over $400 per battery. I went to o'reilly auto parts and they had the same type of battery for $200. I called and asked Camper World why their battery was better. They said it wasn’t better just different.

This is probably a naive question, but is it the experience of others that Camper World charges way more for the same parts just because they can?

Meaningless question, in my opinion. Smart shoppers do shop around and compare prices. If you find a lower price for the same product elsewhere, great! Just be sure you're comparing apples to apples.

BTW, you can gain credibility by naming the store correctly; I'm assuming you are asking about Camping World.

Your title is unfair.
The title should be:
Somehow I've missed this aspect of all things financial during all of time.

Shop elswhere as your right to shop elsewhere.
Gouging is a specific act having nothing to do with cw.

Go to Sam's Club and get them for less than $100 each. I think I only paid $87 each less than two years ago. They probably raised the price 15% because the employees got a 15% raise...

Those aren't AGM batteries, standard FLA.

I not talking about higher prices. I am talking about double the price for basically the same thing down the street. I guess people pay it or they would not do it.

Fact of Life

A retail establishment can charge whatever they want and other establishments can price the same product lower. It has always been that way and it’s called the free market and not gouging.

I'm going to have to suggest you never price a soda and hotdog at a balkgame,

Any California folk remember
Chris and Pitts?
A better steak than Ruth's Chris at 1/5th the price....

When I lived in Myrtle Beach back in the 70s and 80s I seem to remember Camping World opening a store in town. We have always been campers so we were thrilled to have a store in town that catered to our hobby. Anyway, we went and looked around and realized there was nothing camping about Camping World. It's an over priced rip off. Everything they have for sale is available locally from other venders for considerably less than their best ever prices. Even their clearance stuff is over priced.

Not to mention drinks and candy at a movie theater.

Like many retail stores they’ll quote you “list” or “manufacturers suggested retail” price. But it’s pretty easy to find coupons or sale prices of 40-50% off. Especially at CW. Have you ever bought jewelry or furniture?

So... you never "packed" a burger & fries for a movie in your coat pockets in your younger "broke" days? At least we bought a large drink to split...

No burgers but plenty of Tequila or Vodka.

Chris and Pitts is located in the city I worked at. Ate there a lot, porterhouse with a side of spaghetti yum. But no way is it close to Ruth Chris

Well I can't give a direct answer because of all the variables, and type of battery. However, I purchased eight 6v Rolls, 405 Ahr batteries. Cost $600 each. These are for our off grid vacation home in Alaska, with a solar system. Rolls are probably the best/most expensive batteries there are. So perhaps this gives you a data point?

Have you ever walked into a Cabela’s? Compared an Escalade to a Tahoe. Brand names cost more. And even if a product looks identical sometimes they aren’t. Grey Goose isn’t price gouging because you can buy their Kirkland version at Costco for half the price.
