Pikes Peak of Colorado
I am thinking of driving Thor Vegas going up the Pike Peak in CO in the cross country trip.
Wondering whether the E450 engine can make it.
Have someone dine so?

The engine will make it but you might want to rethink taking the RV up there. We went up there in a Honda CRV and it will make you dizzy. While we were going up I did not tell the wife I was getting dizzy because she was already going nuts because of the shear drop offs without a guardrail.
They do have a tram that goes up to the top. You could leave the RV down below and take the tram up.

The engine can make it up just fine. Your brakes going down? Different problem.
As Bob suggested, take the tram. Less white knuckles.

Just a few years ago, Pikes Peak authorities had a stop point where every vehicles from motorcycles to the biggest was required to stop on the way down. The purpose was to check for over heating brakes. This is just one indication of how long and steep the road is.
They may still do this.
Do you feel lucky???

Your question belies confidence and knowledge and experience.
Based on your question:

RE: Pike Peak of Colorado
Thank you for all the advises, I drove up Mountain Washington summit in Whie Mountain, NH. Yes, the coming down is a challenge.
With the comments, I think the best bet is to stop at the cog railway station to ride up. I almost forgot there is a cog railway available.

In the mid 1970's to took my 1965 Corsa convert up Mount Equinox (3,840 ft, 14%+ grade and 5.2 miles). The Corsa pulled the grade easily in 2nd gear, in about 15 minutes. After about 15 minutes at the top, we started down among the carnage. About 1 in 4 cars were overheating at or near the top. About halfway down, there was the smell of burning brakes on every turn out. We passed two wreckers on the way up. Now 50 years later with many less manual transmissions cars, SUVs and motor homes; I doubt things have changed.
If you do go up, be sure you come down in 1st gear and stop at every turnout to let the line of cars behind you go by. You will pass them on the turnouts near the bottom. Do not attempt to tow anything. As others have said the Broadmoor, Manitou and Pikes Peak cog & rack Railway is well worth the money. Take a jacket as it is always cool and windy at the top. I have seen 10 inches of snow on the ground in late August.

How far out is this trip?
Maybe get a Mazda Miata for a TOAD and use that to scale the peak?

The new cog railway has been very busy. Plan ahead and get tickets online to insure the timing of your trip. We have ridden a dozen times or so over the years all but one on the old cog railway. It is well worth the time and money to include on your trip. As Beau noted the weather is quite a bit different on the summit and you have to have a donut with coffee or hot chocolate, it is required the first trip at least.

I have taken this quest off my list, aren't there some bars around Denver you could simply go to and watch some Pikes Peak videos

When Burt Reynolds and Clint Eastwood were getting started they were told by some big Hollywood character that they would never make it in Hollywood. I suspect they understood that "can't never could do anything" and plowed ahead. I remember Clint Eastwood's start in the Italian western's. I was in the Air Force and stood in line to see "A Fistful of Dollars". How many of you remember that Clint Eastwood was part of the cast of Rawhide, a 1959 television show. My Grandmother loved that show and would never miss an episode.

Rawhide trivia(from memory)
The actor who played Pete once screamed so well that the scream has been used in a hundred movies.
Jesus, one of the wranglers, is credited as 'hey soos' to kinda make fun of the
Hey boy and hey girl characters on 'have gun will travel'
The actor who played the trail boss died being a real man and swimming a river (I think the amazon) during a filming of a movie.
Eastwood sang in an episode and also in 'paint your wagon'.
A couple of others but I'll let others play too.

Pete on Rawhide recorded the song One Eyed Purple People Eater. He was from the same town as Roger Miller, Erick Oklahoma.

Trivia: People forget that Roger Miller sold RVs before his musical career... "Trailers for sale or rent"... he even worked it into his lyrics....
And if you believe that... I have a bridge for sale...
