417 Toll road to Disney

Hi guys,
We've been to Disney World well over 100 times, annual passholders, etc., but I'm really getting tired of running the gauntlet on I-4 thru beautiful downtown Orlando in the Challenger. Seems like every time we go there's more of I-4 ripped up. DW is sea sick by the time we get to FW...

This time, I'm thinking about trying 417 by Sanford and coming straight in on World Drive. I know some of my fellow Floridians use this route and I was wondering about how much longer the route is vs. I-4 and also how much are the tolls. Takes us about 2-1/2 to 3 hrs normally from North Fla. Thanks

I live just south of Sanford and I ALWAYS take 417 south vs. I-4 when heading anywhere towards Disney! My GPS will tell me its about 3-4 minutes longer but the GPS isn't looking a traffic on I-4 so in effect you'll make better time taking the 417 and difference in miles is negligible in my opinion.

The Expressway Authority has a "toll calculator" on it's website that will let you calculate the exact cost based on entry and exit points and # of axels.

This thread is a great piece of information , I-4 is the worst part of our Disney voyage and 417 looks like a good answer.
A few minutes longer but avoiding the I-4 war zone will be worth every second.
I used that toll calculator on the Florida Expressway Authority site and found that my rv towing a single axle trailer ( 3 axles total ) from Sanford to Disney will cost $11.30 in tolls.
Well worth it in my opinion.

At almost any price, the toll system is the only option around Orlando anymore. Buy the Sun Pass and you get a discount plus you can zoom past most toll booths in the left lanes at near road speed. Orlando traffic is a death trap.

What part of North Florida are you coming from? Can you scoot over to I-75, then Turnpike to 429 to Disney?

I can, but way out of our way from Amelia Island. We'll do our normal I-95 to Daytona, pick up I-4 to Sanford and get on 417.

Looks like it's $7.75 for us in tolls or $8.75 to do the photo pay by plate, which I'll do for the extra buck since you can drive right on by the toll booths. It's worth twice that much to avoid the water torn roads of Orlando.
Thanks peeps. [emoji88]

It's worth 10 times that much!! I don't hate anything but Orlando traffic and the little street racers in their little loud rice burners with bean cans glued to their exhaust pies, that jump in front of you in traffic and slam on the brakes. They act as if making one more car up in traffic will change their life. Well...if we were in the wild, wild west...it would! GO SUNPASS!!

Another option would be to take 46 west to the new section of 429. It takes you right to the Western Way entrance. Work is progressing to replace the 46 portion with tollway. That will give a toll bypass, the Wekiva Parkway, to the Orlando I4 nightmare when completed. Part of the problem is the I4 "Ultimate" reconstruction project isn't scheduled to be complete until 2021.

For those out of staters who have an EZPASS and are thinking of purchasing a SunPass, unlike the EZPASS, the SunPass does not have a monthly charge if you don’t use it and it doesn’t go bad. I have looked into purchasing an EZPASS for my trips north, but the fact that they charge a monthly fee if you don’t use it, makes it too expensive. With SunPass, you don’t have to worry about that and you save at every toll.

Another good option is to keep heading South on I-95 past Daytona Beach to exit 212, the cut-off for the Beachway (Route 528 - - also a toll road) that takes you to 417. Avoids ALL of I-4 and (I believe) costs less in tolls than picking 417 up in Sanford.

That is an option but it's a long way out of the way. Sad part is, there are no good options for Orlando traffic. I lived in Longwood in the early 80's and they were chasing their tails then regarding traffic. There were no toll roads anywhere then. I think the I-4 to 417 is the best route...go real early or late at night. I prefer night traveling everywhere I go anyway.

just did a little checking on google maps, starting point I-95 near I-4 daytona
I-4 is 71 miles and 1:30
I-4 to the 417/407 loop is 87 miles and 1:24
I-4 to 528 is 99 miles and 1:29

this is based on traffic right now....

I think I'll try that my next time down. thanks scubes3!

I have an E-ZPASS from New York that I rarely use. I don't get charged a monthly fee. I do have it connected to a credit card to replenish the balance. Maybe different states have different policies. My pass is good in the Northeast and mid Atlantic states except Vermont and Connecticut.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like a no brainer for 417. Leaving the house in a few minutes..[emoji88]
