Has anyone made a stop at the American Pickers store. That is on my husband's must see list. If you have, was it easy to get to.

We are going next month. I used google earth to scope out the area. It looks like best place to park is on the river front and walk up the hill to their store. Originally it was a garage in the alley but the have been in the progress of building/renovating a building along the street. The side streets will likely be steep. We also hope to visit the Buffalo Bill Museum there in LeClair.

We have quite a bit of stuff saved as well (aka hoarders) but nothing they'd want to pick. My grandfather was a picker and I love small town America and American History in general. Now that we've downsized to a Class C from a monster 5th wheel we are excited to get back to our roots and stopping at all the historical markers and unique tourist attractions along the highways and byways.

WE have been to both of their locations and really enjoyed them. Parking at both locations can be an issue with an RV. We used the toad in Le Claire as we stayed in IL with friends. In Nashville we were lucky and found a spot in front of the store for the MH and toad on the street. If we had not come early we would have probably had to cancel the visit. Streets are narrow at both locations.

We stopped at their LeClaire, Iowa store last summer. It was an interesting stop. Even with their new second building, we were surprised that there weren't more items for sale. Oh, they had lots of t-shirts, etc, and were selling a lot of that stuff.

About 3 hours west, in Des Moines, we stopped in at West End Architectural Salvage, in an old warehouse building. It had 5 floors of the stuff like the pickers buy on their tv show.

In Moline, the John Deere Pavilion is a worthwhile stop. Old JD equipment, and some of the newest, a real education everyone needs about agriculture then and now.

The John Deere factory tour (if they still have it) was very interesting. My girls and I got to watch the assembly process of a combine.

I was at the LeClaire store a couple years back. To me it seemed more retail than picker stuff.

If you have the time I would go to Frank Fritz's store.

The JD Pavilion is a nice place. I travel to Moline/Quad Cities for a week a month on business. One word of caution is to try to avoid the place during the John Deere Classic which will be start somewhere around July 10 this year. Traffic and accommodations can be hell during the classic. There is a KOA in Moline and the Casino may allow overnight parking (not sure). As an added note, the Quad Cities area is one of the places, where the Mississippi River flows East to West rather than North to South.

When in LeClere......if you have time, go down to Hannibal, MO...take in all the Mark Twain/Samuel Clemens history and more !
