I would pick up I-81 in Pennsylvania and take it to I-40 in Tennessee. Then I-40 to New Mexico. Lot of big cities along the way but pretty straight shot.

You're welcome, I have done the parts from southern PA to NM. The drive thru Virginia is long but scenic, Tennessee is also a stretch with 3 big towns. The rest isn't to bad.

Keep in mind Virginia is about to get a ton of rain and there will be tons of people moving inland.

Don't forget Oklahoma City and Little Rock are pains to get through. Tijeras pass into Albuquerque is definitely mountainous (7,040 ft).
