Recently stumbled upon an absolutely beautiful and well designed state park. Calhoun Falls SP, near the small town of Calhoun Falls in SW South Carolina. It boarders on Lake Russell, seemed to be pretty much gnat and mosquito free. Large RV sites have 100' to 200' well wooded spaces between them and many are waterfront on the lake. Also offer cabins and tent camping. Nice docks, where your boat may be moored and boats rented at the well stocked office/store. Two campgrounds are available; we thought # 2 was nicer but both are way above average. To top it all off, rate for 2 nights, with Sr. discount, was only $38. and change.
