I did exactly that last summer. Made the reservation 8 months in advance, which I do routinely and as said before haven't had to cancel one for over 10 years until last summer. The problem: They changed the policy between the time I made the reservation and the time that it became clear that I wouldn't be able to use it (because of work restrictions on travel - I would have had to add 2 weeks unpaid to my vacation after getting home), which was still 3 weeks out from when the reservation was for. They told me on the phone that they did this because LOTS of people were cancelling last summer, which I get, but if one cancels 3 weeks in advance, they should still be willing to refund most of it. A friendly call to them (I'm always that on the phone) just got me explanations about cancellations and apologizing, with no refund. Chances are I could have taken them to court and won, because the policy was changed after I agreed to the reservation, but I hate excessive litigation in general and really shouldn't have to do that, and it wasn't worth my time. So I ate it and won't go back there.
So, please let me know how, exactly, I'm in the wrong here, that being your implication.
FWIW, since I did call, I also cancelled the reservation (as part of trying to get a refund). But wouldn't if in that situation again.

No they are not and there is no requirement for campgrounds to display a cancellation notice on their sites.
Find the cancellation notice on this website. These folks are demanding full payment up front during the time of the FMCA International Convention.
Green Tree's Crazy Woman Campground - Home
BTW, they are the only campground within miles of the FMCA convention grounds.

Nut you can always call and ask...
Every place that we've stayed has had it clearly outlined on their website...

And most places we stay also have it clearly listed and generally provide some type of refund for advanced cancellations.
There are quite a few private campgrounds that do not list cancellation policies on their site or if listed they use number 1 font on an obscure page. There is another site that clearly states early departures are non refundable. Here is another link for such a site:
https://terrybisonranch.com
Here is one where the cancellation policy is not on the website unless you download the campgrounds RV rules and regulations and then they say no refund within 3 days off the reservation. Break down in route, you are SOL.
https://www.lorettalynnranch.net/main/
Bottom line, don't say cancellation policies are clearly listed when they are not always. We always call unless we are dealing with a national chain such as KOA that has a well established policy. Even then sometimes we still call to check on policies etc during holidays or other special events.

Doesn't help if they change it after the reservation is made.

Actually... you can make a case for your situation.
Whatever their policy was at the time that the reservation was made should apply. You can tell them that if they change their policy: you should only be bound by the conditions in effect at the time you made yours. A unilateral change does not automatically bind both parties to the new terms.

Not if they have a statement (disclaimer) that reads they can change the rules and policies at any time without notice.

We are doing a fair share of ragging on the parks, with some reason, but I think the bigger problem is campers that do not cancel. The park has no choice but to hold a reservation for the possibility of a late night arrival.
The whole no refund issue comes from our abuse of the reservation systems. Otherwise, if we cancel or no-show at the last minute the park looses revenue. I guess they could raise rates to make up the difference but that would start another discussion on this site.

let's see, if you implemented a 'check-in within 24hours of the reserved date, or otherwise you will loose your reservation, and be charged a one-night fee' scenario, then those who aren't showing 'might' check-in to preserve their fee.

The last line in the website states they accept cash and checks only...no credit cards...so, how would make a reservation anyway?

The original post was about state parks...not private campgrounds. Private owners can do whatever they want...demand is off the chart. ParkAdvisor is a great APP with lots of reviews for most locations. When in doubt...go back in time and "pick up the phone".

I did that. They still refused. That leaves legal action as the only recourse, and it wasn't worth the hassle to go there.

Just so we are all clear. For State Parks using Reserve America... If you cancel at the last minute it is the first night plus $6. So in my case; had I cancelled for any reason within 13 days (defined as last minute by Reserve America), it would have cost me $54. Further if you DO NOT Cancel you will pay for each night that you didn't.
Point of this is I see no benefit for the RV Owner to not call in a cancellation for Reserve America early unless #1 they know they will not make it, and is more than 14 days out, or #2; They think or know they can't make it and it is inside 13 days, then it REALLY DOES NEED TO be at the last minute possible so as to not pay for the 1st night because inside 13 days you will have to pay for 1st night and the $6 fee regardless. So in a matter of speaking as long as there was a possibility I may come, or make it; I would not cancel until the last minute thus only paying for one night plus the cancellation fee of $6.
Making a Reservation 8 months out and cancelling 2 weeks out is not what I would consider last minute. If I ran an RV park, I would be glad for people to pay me 6 - 8 months out and then cancel 2 weeks out as it would improve my cash flow. Some % of those would forget to cancel and never miss the money they spent

WDW I am still paying for our Disney vacation for the kids 15 years ago I never could get past how they charged for everything including the water, had I not bought an All Inclusive Package we would be broke today.
I don't normally make reservations, I prefer to roll the dice and see the lay of the land before committing. That is a big reason why our RV layout can be fully lived in / used with no slide out. No telling where we may boondock
But we did get a free 1 year membership with some National RV Campsite Club that came with the RV purchase ( It was something like $600/year; so I didn't even consider to renew). I used it once which required a reservation at least 3 days in advance. It was a PITA, but it was free. In Jan of 2021; I made reservations for 4 RV campsites for a NCAA football came in October. We were having others meet us there and we wanted all of the sites side by side. I paid in advance for all 4. By March, we learned the game had been moved to a different city I cancelled got a full refund... no problem. This was a private RV Park. It may have helped that we have stayed their before (twice).
But as others have said, if for some reason, I learned that I was not going to be refunded, I would not have cancelled. Remember the Golden Rule "Do unto others as they have done unto you" or something like that

If only all campground owners would follow the usual way of saying it...
BTW, never been to WDW. Does one have to book even further out? Or closer in?
