Campground shenanigans begin

Today we went to make a reservation at a campground we’ve stayed at numerous times in the past. They were recently bought out and now go by North Pointe RV Park in Selma, NC. We wanted a reservation for April 1 thru 3 so we could go to the Easter Jubilee at the Rudy Theater.

The campground wanted full payment today, no cancellations and no refunds.

We told them where to shove their campground.

Sorry to see that it happened...
We made our annual reservations at Lake George RV Park, and everything went as it should... other than the price being jumped by almost 25%.
But it's a great place; so we're happy to go back!

While I certainly don't like it, I can certainly understand it.
Look at some of the recent posts from new owners, on ANY rv forum and ask yourself if you'd trust them at their word.

It's
Lowest common denominator
that causes such actions by parks.
And
When a company is big enough a write-off is a good as a profit.
The empty space gets counted as a tax deduction at full tender.

Big business and irresponsible(at best)customers.

Yup, we made all our reservations for 2022 and some wanted payment in full, some wanted deposit, some needed nothing. Go figure. We shop around too. I was "flabergasted" (sp?) at the rate increase for Yogi Bear water part where we take the grand kids yearly to "freak out" for three days at the water park. Next year maybe we will look at Cedar Point for grand kid time.

It's migration season for the snowbirds...they make multiple reservations everywhere so they don't have to run by a schedule...they just cancel the ones they don't want at the last minute. Things will go back to normal when things go back to normal...but it may take till next spring. And yes...I know there are a few that don't do this. Two things that go away seasonally...easy campground reservations in the winter and sugar packets at the diners.

That stinks! I hate the lay in full, I do understand why some places do it but to not offer a refund policy is lame. Sometimes things just happen and there is nothing you can do about it. It’s great that more people are getting out and enjoying our country but I also hate it. I am already working on our plans for 2023 unfortunately because things book so fast. It’s like trying to get tickets to a Metallica concert where you have to keep hitting the refresh button at the stroke of midnight on the first available day to get a spot.

Through the years most campgrounds we have stayed at required full payment, but have also had a refund arrangement. Hopefully a non-refundable reservation won't become the trend.

We usually plan a Good Sams Chapter Rally at a campground in Sevierville TN. That has now been taken over by Sun Resorts. Price went up dramatically and would not budge on a group rate. Dirt pads and a pool and they want 85.00 to over 100.00 per night. Crazy. We said our goodbyes.

I had posted here on a couple other threads regarding our neighbor across the street rates increases. They have another increase for the spring season for both daily and seasonal sites.

Also new is no site storage of extra vehicles or boats. You have to pay extra and leave them in the Corall

Rates are up 50% in two years and now this year the electric meter installation is completed so every space is metered and charged

Seasonal is read and charged plus a reading fee and overnight is based on 30/50 and if you go over the max

Elsewhere we decided to again go the back roads as all our favorite sites had significant increases or were book solid

Traveling the last couple days on I70 I don't recall ever seeing so many RV's on the road this early in the season and most were headed West.

Going to be an interesting 2022 it seems

Exactly.
Add Harvest Hosts, county and municipal parks to the list.
30,000 miles and we've yet to park next to an occupied RV.
