Durango Co

We are headed up to Durango, Co in June. Other than the railroad, what other things to do or RV parks do you recommend? Our route will be from Phoenix, Holbrook, Gallup and on to Durango.

There is Mesa Verde National park and also the Four Corners area.

Here is a great recap of the Colorado National Parks done by local Denver news station. Mesa Verde is featured in this below.

Hope this helps

The drive up over Coal Bank Pass from Durango to Silverton and Ouray is worth checking out - Ouray Brewing Company has great beer. Ouray is a very cool little mountain town.

As CombatYoga mentioned the Million Dollar Highway from Durango to Ouray is spectacular - and not for the faint of heart.

I've done it many times in car, truck, and Spyder while on photography trips. I'm still trying to decide if I want to do it in the Axis.

The 10 miles south of Ouray, the north side of Red Mountain pass, are tight, narrow (two lanes, no shoulders), and sheer with drops of hundreds of feet. There is major construction in progress to repair damage from the previous several winters and there are spots where the outside lane is simply - gone. Oh, and no guardrails on any of it.

Other than that it's a blast!

But, people do it in tractor-trailer rigs and 45 foot motor homes. Have fun if you go!

Regards,

Randy

Mesa Verde, 4 corners, Ouray, Telluride, rent a jeep ride the high country trails...If you get over to Gunnison or Crested Butte..beautiful !
We have stayed at a campground about 15 minutes north of Durango and in Ouray..but, don't remember the names....Nice places...you will want to check availability...it can get hectic.

RV Reviews is very helpful.
