Having lived through the Y2K saga as a computer programmer, I understand!

Unfortunately, I'm a little more worried about the drive tomorrow. There was a local news report where the road we would have drive on was bumper to bumper Friday with all of the people who were going to spend the weekend. The area is eat-up with eclipse events this weekend.

We are going to get up in the morning and decide. The worst case is that we say "that's entirely too much like work", and spend the afternoon in my sister's pool and watch the 97% eclipse.

My front yard will get 1 min and 7 seconds of totality. I am not sure I want to brave the traffic to increase the time of darkness. Driving just a couple miles will add about 20 seconds, but if I go any more, it will be on a road that will certainly be covered with onlookers. Maximum duration is about 2 min 40 seconds.

Here in VA the Interstate Highway message board signs are saying:
"No pulling over to view the Eclipse"

I'm just going to step out the door of my home and watch it, We are in the 100% zone so no traveling needed. With my luck it will probably be overcast now.

Has anybody been thinking about protecting their pets from this?
They could get confused by the mid-day changes, and take a look up...
It might be best to keep them inside...

From local news report they say animals are smart enough not to look at the sun... Even during an eclipse. Different than their human owners... Lol..

But certainly inside is safer. Your choice.

They keep proving that they're smarter than us...

...Yet we still don't fully believe them!

We came to Nashville TN to view the eclipse, and there are signs all along the I-40 saying the same.

I think that is going to be one of those "just how many tickets do you think you can write?"... I expect MANY people will be pulled over to watch.
Only takes disconnecting one wire to say "it won't start" lol

There are so many accidents caused by people running into cars that are pulled over. I try to avoid being on the roadside if at all possible.

Didn't say it was a smart thing to do... just that I think many will...

So far the beginning of the eclipse are being eclipsed by clouds in my part of central FL... hopefully will clear later...
Looking good on TV out west.

Just hit 50% in central Missouri....

Jack in the box tacos and eclipse glasses make an interesting mix...

Clouds cleared in time to see the 85% plus we got here... Now DW wants to plan a trip for 2024... lol...
2045 will be right over us.

The view from central FL standing in front of my Hurricane... (have to tie it to Thor somehow...)

Let's see what those of you in the path of totality got on camera?

Nikon D90 and D750, 400mm zoom and solar filter.

Had to work indoors today. Ran out to see a 98% here, but not able to be in the NC mountains at Maggie Valley and enjoy the RV with the DW and a total eclipse.

Attached is best picture I have.

How do you post pictures in the threads? My Missus took a decent shot of what we ended up with, and i'd like to throw it onto the pile...

...But I haven't figured out how!
