NICE campground
We spent 4 days at the KOA Bernalillo, NM campground.
Friendly, efficient staff and well kept sites.

Just spent a week at Merrisach Lake Park in Arkansas. Beautiful and huge bass if you fish. Wish I knew how to post pictures here. My wife put pictures on their site. O yea $ 15 per night. Camping the way camping is supposed to be. Right on the water and full service. Other rivers were so nice.

KN,
Got to smile.
I grew up in Albuquerque in the 60's, graduated Highland High School in 1971.
Looking forward to heading West and revisiting some of the sights like The Sandia Crest, Old Town in Santa Fe, Mesa Verde, the Painted Desert, the Pueblo Ruins, Carlsbad Caverans and Sitting Bull Falls carlsbadnewmexico.com/place/sitting-bull-falls/ (yep a waterfall out in the middle of nowhere just a bit North of Carlsbad Caverans).

You know... those places never change ... but, the beauty of it all is still jawdropping amazing !

Thanks for the explaination.
I do not remember exactly which cave dwellings they were but in High School we had a field trip to Puye Cliffs I believe and got to climb the wooden ladders up into the dwellings, go thru the various rooms very unique experience!

I know the Puye Dwellings...near Santa Clara Pueblo in the Espanola area.
Have you been to Bandelier ? I have not been there in years... it is in the same general area...near Los Alamos. A number of years ago a forest fire damaged that area extensively...however, I hear from friends the area has recovered nicely. When I was young...visitors were allowed to climb Bandelier at will. I would guess that has changed.
Another area, between Bernalillo and Farmington is Chaco Canyon. There is a ruins there and a kiva. I want to revisit that, however, having done some research, the roads back into the area are not rv friendly. But would be a good day trip from Albuq.
Good memories of the Enchanted Trails !

Doc...do you have any recommendations for easy in/out campgrounds in the Statesville/Asheville area ? Ron is thinking, after leaving Louisville that will be his target area for staying the night.
thank you !

Kay,
Exit 55 off of I-40 at Asheville less than 1 mile drive, called TAPS RV park, 1325 Tunnel Rd, Asheville, NC 28805 Phone: (828) 299-8277. Ran by a Veteran, rates about $35/night.
There is a State Park on Lake Norman in the Statesville/Troutman area off of I-77. We only drove thru it in a car...pretty area, nice tourist/info center, twisty road takes about 15 minutes to reach once you get off the interstate.
"Lake Norman State Park, formerly Duke Power State Park, is a 1,934-acre North Carolina state park near Troutman, Iredell County, North Carolina in the United States. The park is on the northern shore of Lake Norman at the mouth of Hicks Creek. "
Address: 759 State Park Rd, Troutman, NC 28166
Phone: (704) 528-6350.

Kay,
If you happen to be in the area of Mammoth Cave NP on I-65 south of Louisville, the caves are well worth seeing if you haven't been there already. There's a nice campground there also.
