Florida RV parks

Anyone like any RV parks in Florida. We will be heading down around Destin then Naples in December.

Depending upon what you are looking for, you might like Topsail State Park. Here's the link:

We were at Top Sail for a few days in October and loved it. They even had live music one evening. We will go back again next year. Thanks for your response.

You have to be careful about some of state parks. They have some short sites and backing in a big RV could be difficult especially with the tree overhang. 2 weeks ago at Ft Pickens a big RV almost ripped off the satellite system and backed off the parking slab. It took about 1/2 hour for them to get backed in. I would have loved to heard that conversation. Another RV backed into a tree and bent the ladder. What gets me is there is a 50' long site and one small pup tent.

FL Caverns is an interesting place to stay.

You can take 19/27 south just east of Tallahassee. A 4 lane road and no traffic as compared to I-75. It gets a little crowded near Crystal River but then you can take the toll road South to Tampa.

We go south to Sun Lake RV in Ruskin just south of Tampa. Nice small park and a 30 acre lake for fishing.
Safe travels

On the Florida West Coast Sun-N-Fun is nice- great Sarasota downtown area and beaches and lots to do at the RV park.
For Central Florida and Lake Okeechobee - Silver Palms
For the Keys - Bluewater RV

In Destin there are two parks that we are familiar with.

Henderson Beach State Park is very nice. There are pull-throughs which have privacy. Palmetto's between each site along with a few pine trees. Take the Mid-Bay bridge route rather than ride along the beach (98), crazy with traffic, and it is a pretty busy place with all of the snowbirds in town. Take that ride after you are settled in. This is our favorite campground in the area.

Another is Camp Gulf. Lots of sand, but it is always sold out. Has a covered heated pool which is a plus, but it is always so crowded. Sites are close together.

I don't think either of these state parks qualify as RV parks, (so check to see if they have sites that could accommodate your size RV) but Cape San Blas SP (near Mexico Beach) and Saint George Island SP (on the far eastern edge of Saint George Island) offer great expanses of pristine beaches and nature trails.

Henderson Beach will accomodate the Challenger without a problem, and so will Camp Gulf. As I said, Henderson is my first choice. Safe travels.

What about parks and stays on the east coast all the way through the Keys? I plan a trip in the spring, traveling with wife, two small dogs and two grandkids (3 and 5.)

We stayed at Myakka River State Park in the Palmetto section 2 nights last week. We were right across the street from the Restroom/showers. There is a washer and dryer at $1.50 to wash and I believe $1.75 to dry. Showers are very clean. There is even a shelf where you can pick up a book to read and leave your old ones. We walked the 3-1/2 miles from the campsite to the commercial area with a cafe, gift shop and outfitter. You can rent canoes, bikes, etc. there was a lot of animal life around for our walk including lots of alligators in the river, deer, armadillo, buzzards, raccoons, etc.

We stayed at Club Naples RV Resort this past Dec. Sites are adequate but not spacious. Our Hurricane is 35'10". Resort is very nice with paved streets, nice clean showers and laundry. Our granddaughters loved the pool and hot tub! Passport America rate is only $25 for up to 6 nights in Dec. Not available in Jan. But you said Dec. so you would be there at the right time if you are members. This is a Sun RV Resort and they have 2 others in Naples that probably have similar facilities. There are many retired snowbirds there 3 to 6 months and they are very friendly and helpful.
Happy RVing !
Donnie & Becky

Rambler's Rest RV Resort on Myakka

Stayed there in Jan '15. The facilities for common areas are almost all new. Problem is the RV sites. There is an area towards the back at the Myakka River front mostly for short term guests but we were placed in the main portion of the park. That was where the problem came up. Mostly permanent residents in older, static trailers. Everyone was pleasant but this wound up the most expensive and most disappointing place we stayed. There are other, nicer, less expensive RV parks.

In our travels we saw a number of these type parks. Strongly suggest you cross reference reviews between Woodall/Good Sam and RV Park Review.

Enjoy!!

We live in Iowa and go to Sanibel Island in Jan. Ocala Sun is where we always seem to be staying on our way down. Nice park and easy to get in and out of. We have a 31 foot MH and tow a car too. You could get county and state park information by mail since you have time. Have fun. Hope the weather is good for traveling then. Always a toss up that time of year.

Can anyone provide recommendation for Bickley Park in Seminole, FL or KOA at St Petersburg/Madeira? Thanks

Destin RV Beach Resort is as nice of an RV resort you’ll find. VERY well maintained and landscaping is excellently manicured. It doesn’t have direct access to the beach; however, we rather enjoyed that because you don’t get quite as much sand in your camper. It’s only a block walk to their own private beach access. Definitely check them out...we loved it!

I have a relative that stays at that koa in St Pete a lot. They love it. It's only an hour from his house and they go at least 6 or 8 times a year for long weekends. In fact, they are headed there next weekend for the special the koa has. It's a stay 1 get one night free. They are going over there for 4 nights. All proceeds from that weekend go to cancer research.

There is an app called Park Advisor...great for locating most everything and has real reviews from users. I know there are lots of apps, but this one is non-biased and not driven by specific businesses. Zoom down to your destinations or along your route and it's very easy to use.

I use that app almost exclusively. It has everything. Looks to Web sites and a phone call bottom, which is great when on the road and making a reservation.

I've heard the parks around Naples really fill up around January. We were just at Seminole Collier State Park and the ranger said they were already booked effectively 100% from January thru April.

Snowbirds...space invaders...the same people who order water with lemon at every meal and add sugar to make "Canadian Lemonade". Starting in a month or so there will be wagon trains of RV's heading down I-75. Can't blame them...I would do the same thing. At least they spend their money here.
