Harvest Hosts-What's it been like this year?

I hear lots of scuttlebutt about HH, but I'd love to hear from the folks on this forum who are members and have used (or tried to use) their membership over the past few months.

Are the Hosts as booked-up as the campgrounds have been? Is HH losing Hosts? Any tips for getting the most use of your membership?

We've used it for 7 of the last ten days.
We call about 4 hours in advance. No turrndowns yet.
We did not stay where we were in booked last night.
The host seemed confused, knew someone had stayed there the night before but didn't know why or how, forgot the names of his dogs and was generally flustered. We followed him(he was on a gator) to a neighbors house so we knew he had someone to watch him.

Sign up for the golf course option. We used it three times last week.

Since HH bought Boondockers Welcome, we have used BW a few times. No real change from before when BW was independent other than the availability of the app which may have been implemented by HH.

3 years in now, we've had great experiences with HH. Since the new owners bought it the number of Hosts have expanded greatly. They're changing the reservation system over to an email only system so communication lags are an issue with the Hosts that have signed on to that system. Haven't used it much this year but...zero issues and great off the beaten path locations. HH needs to change the icons on their map...make them smaller...they are so big you have to zoom way in to see locations which makes it a bit difficult to see statewide locations or a state away in your destination direction. Funny Fact...our first stay was at Horse Creek Winery in Nashville, GA...did the tasting, bought a case of wine and had dinner in their 5 Star cafe. Excellent experience and the free camping only cost me $450 for one night. Watching the wife stand in the vineyard in her pajamas at 6AM drinking coffee and eating grapes made up for it. We were the only people on the property until the opened for business that morning.

Thanks for all the thoughts - I signed up today, will see how it goes. We do a lot of our tripping in the fall and winter (SoCal residents), so should be fun.

We signed up yesterday, we're heading to albuquerque in 6 weeks and plan on using HH on the way home. Should be a blast.
