Heads UP Display

I notice that there are now quite a few heads up displays that project information onto the windshield. Some look quite useful, especially ones that interface with the OBD. I would like to hear from anyone who has used these. I am curious if they are effective and useful? I am also interested in OBD displays that don't project.

Ken

This is probably the best of the non heads up units

I have this one, and it was a waste of money to buy it!

There was considerable discussion of HUDs not too long ago, one of the threads can be found here: http://www.thorforums.com/forums/f27/hud-3539.html

I find them distracting
I drove a car once that had a factory HUD. A pontiac I think it was....

Also, I played around with an iphone app years ago back when I had iphones. It worked fairly well

But just like anything digital, I find that I want to fixate on it so it ends up being distracting.

I bought a cheap $70.00 Android tablet from Walmart and installed the Caroo App. Caroo not only displays OBDII data, it also uses the Android Camera as a crash recorder. In the case of sudden deceleration the camera starts recording. Just in case you need to "prove your case" in an accident. Caroo interfaces with most bluetooth ODBII devices. I mounted it so that I can see my speed, RPMs, etc without having to take my eyes off the road. NOTE: in some states having anythiong mounted on your dash is illegal.

I dont have a hud but I do have the scan gauge. I havent really used it yet but it will be really nice dialing in my MPG. My only wish was that it also showed me what gear I was in.

Fits really nice in my 2017 class C. A little dremel work to widen the storage hole on the dash and it fit in there well. In the future may actually cut out and mount flush but for now this works well and wire is all behind dash. Total install including dremel less then 10 minutes.

I installed a cheap little HUD in the lower left corner of the windshield. Shows RPM, speed in big numbers, temp, battery voltage and some other odds and ends. I like it as I do not have to take my eyes off the road to check speed.
