I did the same drive (leaving from Gainsville) last summer with my Prius toad. No issues with the hairpin curves, and a very nice drive closer to the Smokies. Not all of the roads are maintained that well though, especially in TN.

2021 Thor Four Winds 26B on Chevy 4500
We just drove 441 (Newfound Gap Road) last week. We left Pigeon Forge, entered at Gatlinburg, and cut over at Cherokee, NC to go to Asheville. We had no issues with a 35’ coach towing a Jeep. There are a few steep grades, but nothing terrible. There are also a few tunnels, but they were not a problem.
