Jacksonville Florida Camping

We like to get away from the snow for a few weeks in February. In the past we have gone to the Tampa area. This winter we are thinking of the Jacksonville area. Anybody have any suggestions for this area?

We have a small motor home (27 feet) and like it easy - cement pads/patio; full hookups; wifi; and cable. Any help would be appreciated.
John

Be aware that Jacksonville is further north than the Georgia line and as such will be colder than Tampa by several deg.

No kidding! We are near Cocoa Beach and Jacksonville is consistently colder by 10 to 15 degrees. When we hit 40 they are usually around 30!

I agree that Compass and Flamingo are good RV camping spots. I also like Salt Springs Recreation Area. It has full hookups, but is a little bit further south of Jacksonville.

Thanks for your suggestions. We know it would be a little cooler, but not as cool as our weather in February in Michigan!

Anastasia State Park is one of my favorites too, but it has only electricity and water at the campsites and a dump station near the entry. It does not have cable or WiFi (may have WiFi at the little snack bar at the beach entry).

We stayed at Compass RV campground off I95 off SR207 left and it was great. Close to everything. In July 2019.

Can't say enough good about Compass. The "Sunshine Thor Fall Rally" was held there in October. Immaculate place with really gorgeous sites...mostly the ones in the new section towards the back...but all of them are above average. It's close enough to Jax and also close to Daytona Beach. Lots of places within an hour's travel. St. Augustine is really cool but parking can be a real challenge.

I live in that area, but sadly most of my experience is places without concrete pads.
The state parks have pads for the handicapped spots, but otherwise not... several good choices though....
Hanna park is a city owned place....all full hook-up but not many with concrete pads, very surprising topography though for this area...sites scattered throughout nice foliage and hilly terrain, what used to be sand dunes now wooded with nice bike trails. Maybe a bit more rustic than you're looking for though....

Feb can be very pleasant here...but it can also get quite cold some years. yeah, yeah...not Michigan cold...but whatever. it's damp bone chilling cold.
My advise is keep plans soft and be prepared to head a bit further south

I will also recommend Compass. Great campground, good prices, very friendly staff. Convenient to everything.

It's not anywhere near Jacksonville, but you might check on Topsail Hill Preserve State Park on the Gulf. It was a private RV park before the state took it over, so it has amenities you rarely find at state park campgrounds.

There are some great places in central Florida, too. Your choice will depend on what you are looking for.

I always use Hanna Park. Municipal campground, lots of room, full hookups, cheap!

Well....If you are going to be in North/Central Florida in February, you should catch the FMCA South East Area Rally in Lakeland. It will be at the Sun 'n Fun Expo Campus from February 5th thru 8th, 2020. Here is a link to the rally registration form.

We thought about staying in the Jax area thru Winter. How do the prices for camp sites compair to going further south or on the west coast? We've been staying in the homosassa area on the west coast where we feel the price is right. I hope my reply doesn't mess you up from your original question.

Hi ! We have family in Lakeland (between Orlando and Tampa)...we go down to see them once or twice a year and stay at SANLAN RV Resort and Golf Course. They have all kinds of sites...including concrete pads in a newer section..I would guess they have over 300 RV sites. It is a nice, secure RV park with an area of Park Homes and an area with permanent double wides. Each area is very nice. We will be there about the middle of December til January something, unless we decide to stay longer ! We have stayed there for a number of years.
Temperature is 74 in Lakeland, right now !!

Is this at an RV Park/Resort in Lakeland? I do not see one listed under Sun N Fun in Lakeland....

One of the nicest places to stay is Ocean Grove Campground. Easy walk to ocean and camping along the intracoastal. Just search in You Tube and you will find several walk around reviews to watch. Hope to see you here!
