Day 14. Off to Gettysburg
Woke up before the alarm and decided to hit the road early. Hit some traffic but we got to Gettysburg at 930. Maria demanded we stop at the outlet stores which are right at the off ramp. She wanted to hit up the Columbia store for a rain jacket. She also talked me into getting 4 shirts. $250 later we were done
Jamie and family left DC a couple hours before us. They wanted to drive to West Virginia. They are trying to see or drive through every state just to mark them off their list
IMO I have to spend the night to mark it off my list.
Anyways just as we were finishing they showed up. Saw out parked mh from the off ramp. They are shopping now
I think we will make it the Gettysburg by 1230

Side note and Gettysburg report to follow.
Arrived at Artillery cg. Staying just the night. Its been raining off and on all day and the cg is pretty wet. Beautiful place. They have stables for your horses and its pretty wooded area.
I know I sound like a broken record but its beautiful here. have to say every cg so far has been great and to my surprise the further east the better and prettier they got.
I also love the farm, woods and openness of all the states east of Texas that we've seen. Would really like to move east and get an acre or two or ten Dont know if I would like the four seasons especially the winters. Born and raise in So Cal, we have the best weather.
Maria would not have it especially while her parents are still alive. And with my daughter pregnant with my first grand daughter I dont know if I want to leave and not be available to baby sit and spoil her on a daily bases.
We live in a beautiful country and I know Ill be back to some of these places and next time Ill stay at the cg longer to enjoy them and the area.

So after shopping at the outlets we got to Gettysburg. Saw the movie explaining the battle, walked the museum, then did the 2 hour tour. Everything was amazing.
THe tour guide lives and breaths civil war. SO much knowledge. Statues, cannons, markers, and history everywhere you look.
So many americans died in the battle and in the civil war. Such a shame but its a big important part of our history. I hope the snow flake generation of today doesnt find a way to remove it and ruin it for our next generation.
This is a must see if youre in the area.
Pics to come once my cell charges.

Great memories Kent. My only regret is driving so much and not staying in some of these cg longer. TO enjoy it at its fullest I would say we would need to add another month to the trip

Day 15. Gettysburg to Brandywine Creek cg in Glenmoore PA
Again the cg is beautiful. It has a creek running through it and a small lake for kids to fish. Lots of seasonal workers staying here and Maria already got into an argument with the guy next to us for his loud music. He eventually turned it down. Still its an awesome place and I would like to stay a week here.
We left Gettysburg a round 10am. It rained off and on all night so I didnt get a very good night sleep. We made a detour to Roots Country Market in Manheim PA. Its a swap meet, farmers market and eatery all in one giant locations. They have numerous building and more outside vendors. Its huge.
Anyways we came here for pizza. As I mentioned a few posts back I have a pizza oven and Im a member of a pizza making forum, pizzamaking.com. One of the members, Norma, has a small shop there with a two shelf oven. Norma was on the tv show "Chopped" around Christmas. It was the grannys Christmas dinner show. Well she came in second but I think she should have won. She also won the 2016 Caputo pizza competition at the Pizza Expo in Las Vegas. That was a real big thing!!! In fact the host of Chopped, Ted, mentioned it on the show and he and the judges mentioned how big of an accomplishment this was.
SO there was no way that I was going to drive 3000 miles and not stop for her pizza. She is a sweet old lady and her pizza was great. We bought 3 pizzas and ate 2 there. Jaime and I split the last one which Ill have for dinner when Im done with this post.
Left Roots for a beautiful ride through rolling hills with stone houses on huge properties.
Off to Philly tomorrow so Jaime and I did some recon on the train station and did some closer inspection of the houses in the area. Did I mention how beautiful it is out here.
Independence Hall report tomorrow night.
And pics in a bit. Cell is charging.

When in Philly stop at the Reading Terminal Market--it isn't too far away from Independence Hall: https://readingterminalmarket.org/
Of course, don't forget to climb the steps at the Philly Museum of Art (and take a photo by the Rocky statue).

Day 16. Up early and we cramped all 8 of us in the jeep. Made the 10-15 minute drive to the train station. Train took about a hour to get to Philly Walked to Independence Hall Visitor Center for our tour tickets and all day bus pass.
Did the tour, went to see the Liberty Bell, then went to the various historical buildings.
Have to say I was pretty disappointed. Really thought it was going to be a lot more to it. I guess we got spoiled with all the great DC sites.
Ate a pretty good lunch, cheese steak sandwich, at Sammys. We split up from Jaime and family then got on the bus. Two main stops were good. First was Reading Market, thanks Jamie for the tip, then to see the Rocky statue.
After climbing to the top of the steps we found out the statue wasnt there anymore. They moved it to street level to the right of the steps. Oh well it was exercise climbing the steps.
Jaime and family were now on the bus making their way to Rocky. So we found a park bench in the shade and relaxed until they got there. After all photo shoots were done it was back on the bus and back to Reading Market. The market was at the train station so we decided to get a a small dinner before heading head.
Maria goes tothe ladies room then we walk to a shop for some snacks. We were waiting in line to pay when Maria then realizes she left her phone in the bathroom. She takes off running with the snacks in her hand. Im in hot pursuit thinking her phone is long gone. THe real bad part is her phone is a wallet. Her atm, credit card, ID is with it. I can her her banging on stall doors asking for her wallet. Some guy realizes whats wrong and tells me the office i right behind me. I go inside and miraculously the wallets there. Not sure who turned it in but its great to see some honest people still exist.
We go back and pay for the snacks Maria shoplifted, then we all go back for the long train ride to the cg. Another long day and its nice to relax.

Woke up to heavy rain. Thankfully it stop just long enough to break camp. Drove the 1-1/2 hours to Hershey. Of course Maria found an outlet store center so her we are. She's shopping and I'm on a bench waiting for her. When she's done we'll check in at the cg then do our tour of Hershey
