Jolly Roger RV Park Florida Keys

We've been to the Keys dozens of times, never camped there, so this time we've taking the Challenger and staying at Jolly Roger RV Park in Grassy Key. Would like some input from anybody who has stayed there, thanks guys..

Very Tight Sites - Beautiful Along Coast

Sites are very tight and roads are narrow. Had to get three neighbors to move their trucks in order to back into site. Nice views along coast. About 10 minutes to Marathon and 75 minutes to Key West.

We're gonna be in an interior plus site a few rows back from the water. Looks like long pull thru sites with nobody behind us.

Still our favorite park in the Keys. DW won't go unless we have a seawall site! Great snorkling area, lots of cool fish sighting at night. We've seen a small hammerhead, barracuda, turtles, etc. Hope for northwesterly breezes. We've only missed one year since 2007. A lot of new building taking place since hurricane went through 3 years ago. Wish we were there, too! Have fun.

So I'm guessing you'd say it's a good place to spend a month? [emoji41]

Absolutely! Especially if the intent is to lay back and enjoy the atmosphere and just soak up the sun. I could hang out there for MONTHS, easily, but DW yearns for the four walls of our permanent residence and the closeness of the children and grandchildren. I am the one who enjoys going to places like JRTP and just doing nothing moreso than she does. So, yes, I would definitely recommend it for a long stay.

Nice Park

You'll be in the grassy area, so watch for sand flies/gnats. We've gotten bitten up sometimes. You are from Florida so you know about chiggers and avoiding spanish moss and wet grassy areas. Chiggers are the Conch Republic state bug!!
We've been to Jolly Roger many times over the years, but prefer to go farther down the Keys when we can. The State park campgrounds at Long Key and Bahia Honda are awesome too.
Have fun.

Yeah, sand gnats (flying teeth) and chiggers are a way of life here. No worries. [emoji41]

Stayed there a week this past March. Sites up front are kind of tight but the pull throughs were really big. Nice sandy beach area on the water with palm trees and chairs. Nice marina area with docks for fishing. Nice roped off swimming area.

We stayed for a week in February...won't go back. Sites are packed in. Our neighbors slide was at the edge of our cracked up patio. There are a few good sites if you're lucky enough to get one...they cater heavily to their regulars. Its called Grassy Key for a reason. The sea bed grass blows in and piled up all around the docks, ramp and the swimming area. Its 7 miles either way just to buy a candy bar. Not my cup of tea.

Stayed there all of january 2021. Nice park excellent dog park. Snorkeling is best in march or april. Some sites are tight but you are in the keys. Noseeums are bad early and late if you are susceptible as I am. Bites are terrible and leave scars. My dear wife had no issues with them but I walked the dog early and late. Had to resort to long pants and long sleeves and bug spray. I would go back again.

I admit the spaces are tight, but, it is a great park. The location is central and if you have a towed you can easily visit several other sites. The RV park is located right on the gulf waters with some great sunsets. It has a nice dock/pier. Even the interior sites are a short walk from the water. DW and I are looking forward to returning.

All great comments and well applied. As stated...."it is The Keys". Real estate is like platinum. If you get a place in The Keys...period...feel blessed. There are far worse places than this...many with lots of "live-ins" and I don't mean full-timers...we're talking 50+ year old trailers/campers with multiple plywood "room additions".

Update..We've been here a week now and it's been amazing. Pretty much what we expected from watching YouTube videos and your comments. Our site is more than large enough, We have our Challenger and 2 vehicles, pop up canopy over the table and could easily park another car. Surprisingly quiet ,especially at night..Staff has been very friendly and helpful. Looks like we may be extending our stay. [emoji476][emoji41][emoji879]

Glad you're enjoying it. On our first visit to JRTP we were scheduled for three nights and ended up staying for 6 nights! That was in 2007 and things were a little different back then. On two of those nights I don't think that there were more than three or four customers . Two of those nights we were the only ones on the seawall! Now you have to schedule the seawall a couple of months in advance unless you have the luck of one who carries that proverbial 'horseshoe' with you!
Have fun!
