I-10 (Baton Rouge west), 20 and 49 in Louisiana are horrible. I-20 in the DFW area is exciting in any RV to say the least. That said, we do manage to travel on all of them going to rallies and coming home; admittedly a much slower speeds than the limit (rolling road block).

We just made that run, Class C pulling car on 20' trailer. Worst road surface in LA. Went through Atlanta on 20 about 3pm. Traffic slows at junctions with 285. Stay as far left at junctions as possible.
We hit DFW at 7am on a Saturday. Wasn't bad at all.
El Paso at 9am Sunday wasn't bad either. I can't imagine what both would be like during the week though.
We're heading back to SC via I-40.

Unless you are just determined to drive the interstates, look at various US and state highways. Those regions are for the most part flat and in wide open spaces and off-interstate travel can be a lot more relaxing and scenic.

Great idea chunker21. We're in no hurry to get home, so I'm going to try US 82 for our return trip to Columbia, SC.
Retirement so far has been all it is cracked up to be.
