Campground recomenndations I-10 to S California

We plan to leave Texas the end of October in our 2015 24.1 Vegas. We've only used our coach for two days so this will be our first long distance trip. We live in the suburbs of Houston close to I-10 our route Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. Any recommendations where to stop overnight? Once we get to California we have family in Rancho Cucamonga that's near the Ontario Airport off of I-10. Has any one stayed recently at any of these RV parks; KOA in Pomona, East Shore RV in San Dimas, Terrace Village in Grand Terrace and Mission RV in Redlands.

We do not plan to tow so any recommendation on car rental companies appreciated. Where is the best place to pick up car, airport or other.

Thank you,
Texas

We spent Labor Day weekend in Macon Ga at Lake Tobesofkee. It is a City of Macon and Bibb County Park...it was great!

Clean, close to the city of Macon, nice sites, 18 hole Disc Golfand white sand beaches. There was no sewer hook-up (dump station avail) but included water, electric and cable hook-up for $22/night.

Campground recommendation

Sheree & Michael,

Thank you for sharing your photos and maybe we ought to head to Georgia rather than S. California. We couldn't get over the rate and you would be shocked at what the KOA and other campgrounds charge in California. Again thank you for sharing and also welcome to the Forum.

You're going to hit a dry spell between Junction and Fort Stockton as far as RV parks go. We've stayed years ago at the KOA in Junction and what used to be the KOA in Fort Stockton (and, no, we're not real KOA fans - it just worked out that way.) I'm not sure if either of these parks are still KOAs or not. The Fort Stockton park is about 2-3 miles east (i.e., the Houston side) of Fort Stockton right off I-10 and was pretty nice with a restaurant on site with some other amenities, but there are some decent parks in town as well. If we're going that way, we normally are headed to the Davis Mountains and stay at the Davis Mountains State Park, but that's 35 miles or so south of I-10 and probably isn't a reasonable choice for overnighting unless you want to take a day off and do some sightseeing.

We make the trip from FL to CA each year and pretty much stay in Passport America campgrounds. We only drive 250- to maybe 350 miles a day.
Since you are leaving Houston I-10, our next stop would be around San Antonio in either:
River Bend RV Park, PA rate: $15
1881 S State Hwy 80 , Luling, TX 78648 (830) 875-9548
or alternate:
Hill Country RV Resort, $21.00 - $23.50
131 Rueckle Road
New Braunfels TX, 78130 (830) 625-1919

Next stop would be:

Parkview RV Park, $11.00
Fort Stockton TX, 79735 (432) 336-7733

Next stop:
Coachlight RV Park , PA rate: $18.00
301 South Motel Blvd,
Las Cruces NM, 88007 (575) 526-3301

Next stop:
Ft Willcox RV Park PA rate: $14.00 - $15.00
1765 W Fort Willcox Loop (520) 384-4986
Willcox AZ, 85643

Next stop:
Saddle Mountain RV Park, $16.00
Tonopah AZ, (623) 386-3892

Next stop is in the Palm Springs area and we park in son's driveway out back.
Price is right.
I don't have an recommendations for the Pomona area as I have never stayed there.
If you are not familiar with PPA, you may want to look into it as you can save the price of the annual fee in the first few nights of camping. It does have its limitations, but easy to work around.
Have a great trip.
