Louisiana Trip
We just got back from a trip to Louisiana. We left Durham, NC in mid May and returned in early June. It was a three week trip. We visited relatives, ate some good Cajun food, and did some site seeing.
We had hoped to leave in late April but due to doctors appointments and some home renovations we left in mid May. We have a 2016 Axis 24.1 and pull a Suzuki Sidekick Sport. We averaged 8.8 mpg’s during the trip and had no engine or RV issues.
We stopped for several days in Baton Rouge, Marksville, Lake Charles, Lafayette, and New Orleans. We ate cracklings and hot Boudin for breakfast several times and had boiled crawfish - my wife’s favorite food several times.
The weather was a heat wave - the temperature was mostly in the mid 90’s with no cloud cover the whole 3 weeks. We couldn’t comfortably sit outside during the day due to the heat but we went around early in the morning and later in the evening.
We visited several wildlife areas and saw alligators, and a lot of wading birds. In New Orleans we went to the French Quarter to get coffee and beignets several times in the morning. We also did some shopping at unique stores and went on the Mississippi River levee and got some very good views. The River was pretty high. We hod no major problems finding street parking in the French Quarter and New Orleans in general.
The A/C ran well but it ran all day and modulated at night. The windshield and driver and passenger windows are major sources of heat during the day even with the shades and blinds down. I’ll look into getting some insulation for those areas.
This was a good trip and we got to do what we had planned but it was very hot. We saw an Axis 24.1 when we were leaving New Orleans KOA.
