reverse snowbird - Michigan bound.

First overnight at Rickwood Caverns State Park a little north of Birmingham, Al. Nice folks, quiet, only 13 campsites. Used every leveling block I have and need more. Forewarned is forearmed.

Day two - Left the interstate for most of the day. Beautiful country along Hwy 231. Today's campsite at Mammoth Cave NP in Ky is flat! Oh joy! Axis is a great ride. Time for an adult beverage.

Day 3 - and 4.
Two nights at Timber Valley RV Resort. First experience in commercial Campground. Clean, quiet, nice folks. Bathrooms clean, could use some updating, but ok. With full hookups used the Axis shower for the first time. Love the larger shower in the 25.2; so much better than the class c we had before.
I-69 from Indianapolis was horrible but nothing fell off the Axis yet. Tomorrow on to Sleepy Hollow SP in Michigan.
Beautiful weather! Used ceramic heater last night to take the edge off. Low 50s, broke out the quilt.

reverse snowbird - Michigan bound.

Overnight at Sleepy Hollow State Park, Michigan. Drizzling rain but cool weather. Love it! On to Straits State Park today.

Arrived at Straits SP, set up and went exploring. Found the Mackinac Grill. Great dinner and brew from local brewery. Now relaxing around the fire. Temps tonight in high 50s. Perfect! Click image for larger version

On our way home to Indianapolis now after a week in the UP. If your travels take you near Traverse City be sure to book some time in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Shoreline Park. It's a fabulous place. Pretty cold up here for mid August. We've needed our furnace a couple of times. Got into the 40s with rain one night! Great trip.

Didn't make it to Traverse City but will travel the west side of Michigan next trip. We're on our way back to Florida now. Stayed at Sleepy Hollow State Park last night. Really like their Campground.
We were at Straits State Park for 2 weeks. Didn't use the heater but did break out the quilts. UP is wonderful.
For a great burger and other food where the locals eat in St Ignace go to Bentley's Diner. It's on State St across from dock#2 parking lot. Clyde's Drive In is another great one (carhops!) in St Ignace and Sault Ste Marie.

Sleepy Hollow State Park.
Trivia: There are 14 (that's right, 14!) breweries in the UP. I really liked Keweenaw Brewing Company's Widow Maker Black Ale.

2600 Miles driven. Home. Cut the grass, vacuum the pool, clean that filthy Axis inside and out and get ready to go again. Short one weeker planned for September, then a three week jaunt in October.

I heard that! We've had our Freedom Elite 26HE for only 8 months and already have 8000 miles and 41 nights. And trip planning suggests the pace will be quickening. When we bought it we had no idea how much we would enjoy touring. Now wish we had bout a slightly larger class A. Learning as we go. Safe and fun travels.

That's lots of miles and lots of nights. Good for you!
We looked at a 26HE before deciding on the Axis 25.2 We liked it a lot but the cockpit table and swivel seats in the Axis did it for us. The more we use it, the more we learn how to use it. We like smaller to fit in more places and follow those roads some avoid. Also, smaller means less room for stuff maybe nice but not really needed. If full timers, it would be a different story, but 26.5 feet seems to work well for us. Thirty feet would seem like a mansion, but lovely wife is looking.
