Million Dollar Hwy. 550 in Colorado.

Has anyone taken this route from Montrose to Silverton? We have a Windsport 29M with the V10 and wonder if there should be any concerns. Thanks

It’s not a bad road, but the section climbing out of Ouray is steep and has multiple switchbacks. You can make it without risking your rig, but plan on slow and steady. It is beautiful though, especially northbound as you get fantastic view of Ouray and realize why they call it the Switzerland of the Rockies.

Have been between Ouray and Silverton several times--with a TT, then fifth wheel. Not really any problem if you pay attention to the road and not the scenery...there are several places with enough room to pull off and get out for pics. Real problem is the traffic in summer months.

Scariest road I have ever been on. I deleted the contents of my dash cam. The view was amazing but I was squealing like a baby most of the way.

I drove from Durango to Silverton and then hung a right through Engineer Pass to Lake City. 4WD road once you pass Animas Forks ghosttown. Incredible views!

WOW, is this picture facing North or South? I think I'd rather be on the inside lane!!! I have always loved Ouray. I can't wait to go back there!!!

Yeah, made you pay close attention to your driving. Pretty scenery but not many pullouts. Oh yeah Silverton was Ok for pix too.

Most fun is when you are passed by an gasoline tanker on a switch back with all 7 tires on the center-line.

Wouldn't try in the near future due to the flash flooding north of Durango. I believe that it is incredibly rude and inconsiderate to drive a large motorhome or 5th wheel on the stretch between Ouray and Silverton.

Towed a trailer over it, never tried it in the MH. My grand father helped build that road. Now that would have been hair raising. Try calling the Colorado traveler information line 303-639-1111 or maybe the Highway Patrol
