Moab Utah

Looking for recommendations on parks around the Moab area.
We have been online looking for a week's stay in September.
Several have openings including the KOA at over a hundred a night.
If we are to drop a $100 a night for a stay would rather support a mom & pop establishment. We have been on the Moab visitor web page there are several RV parks listed. We would like to hear from forum members that have stayed around Moab.
Tx in advance
Mark

Dead Horse Point State Park. Only electric hook up but worth the stay. We stayed there 4 nights, brought 10 extra gallons of water with us in the toad.

It is a good 30+ minute drive to get to Moab but that is part of the appeal

Unfortunately, health issues and leaving the dog when we go out require, we at the minimum have electric hook ups. (We can't leave Fido baking in the MH!)
One or two nights at a time rustic is about all we can do.
Thanks for responses.

Dead Horse Point has electric hookups--only electric.

We stayed there one night waiting on a site in town. Enjoyed the park and it was well worth the time spent there

Really enjoyed the week we stayed and could have spent even more time

Our Westie was traveling with us then and she was quite welcome all over town

Depends on what your plans are during your stay. Do you want to be close to town or do you want to be more remote?

KOA is a nice campground and they have made many improvements in recent years including their premium sites.

Spanish Trail which is in close proximity to the KOA has some nice spots with the longest ones being in the very back (these are often booked up). It's along the highway but road noise isn't that bad.

Canyonlands (in town) is really close to everything but you are packed in pretty tight but it does put you really close to downtown and some things will be within walking / bike riding distance.

If you want to pay top dollar, just check out the prices at Portal!

There are a couple in town near Portal, but I've not stayed at any of those so I have no recommendation or opinion on those.

Archview is my favorite and is north of town. People love it or hate. I was formerly a Jeeper and now I ride UTVs so this was a premiere place to stay. There are awesome views from the campsite, they have a gas station on-site, a large variety of camp sites from small to huge, and we ride from the campground to the trail without the town traffic! Moab is ANTI ATV/UTV.

Ballards up in Thompson Springs is inexpensive, but it's also a long drive to town and there isn't much up there otherwise.

Let me know if you have any other questions about Moab. We've been going there for about 20 years now. We've even stayed up in Green River a couple times.

We stayed in Moab this last summer (late July early Aug) and received service from Canyonlands RV. Clean and very KOA ish. Right in town, walking distance to restaurants and the hustle of Moab, UT. If you are not looking for camping "in town" then I would look elsewhere. We loved it and will return to Canyonlands RV for our next Moab visit. Very reasonable prices with full hookup amenities.

We visited all Moab attractions in our 2019 25.5 with zero issue. In fact often times we parked in oversized or transport parking spots which were almost directly upon the access trails. Amazing time.

Reluctant to provide personal information about our experience as some folks regularly correct or chime in on others experiences. Just our 2 cents.

If you're in Moab area the Great Sand Dunes National Park is worth seeing

Nice new KOA in Alamosa with large pull through sites or close enough for a day trip

If you don't need a hookup the Pinon Flats campground in the Dunes is nice. Er if you can get a spot. I believe there is also a bunch of BLM land around the Dunes for a more isolated experience.

We have done both as well and they are OK

Granddaughter has a cabin in the area so reason for several trips that direction

We only do boondocking in non AC weather and in that area it is most of the season

Certainly worth a visit for anyone that hasn't been

I knew there were forum members out there with experience in the area. Unlike fisherman Rvr's are always willing to give up a good spot
Thx again!

I've stayed at Canyonlands in town a few times, and it is one I'd recommend if you want to be in town. You just have to be patient at times as it tends to bottleneck at the entrance if the gas station is busy or too many coming and going at once.

As for other recommendations:

Moab Diner - great all around menu, but if nothing else... go for the Ice Cream

Moab Brewery - another favorite for food, atmosphere, and brew if you choose.

Jeep Rental - Twisted Jeeps without a doubt

Guided Tours - Dan Mick

Raft or Canoe - Moab Rafting and Canoe

Dinosaur Tracks - Head over to the parking lot of Poison Spyder Trail

Cool Arches - Gemini Bridges (but you'd need a regular vehicle to go here)

Moab rv parks

We stay at Portal. Love it great location. Great views. Well maintained. Fairly high end.

Timing is important for Moab. It’s really, really hot in summer. I’m from central Texas…. I know hot.

We’ve stayed in area a number of times. Portal RV or something like that. High end, but good location. We now normally stay in Monticello Ut, Mountain View RV…. Gravel park, FHU, clean. It’s 50 miles south of Moab, about 7000’ elev, much cooler. Monticello has a nice golf course, not much else. Not far from south entrance to Canyonlands NP. Have to go to Moab for other visitor attractions. Dead horse pass SP and Arches NP well worth seeing. We always stop for Italian food at Patsy J’s Moab. Lot of folks like the brewery grill on south side of town.
