Monkey Island RV Resort
First night of trip from Illinois (St. Louis area) to Southern CA, NM, and points between.
This is Monkey Island RV Resort in Afton, Oklahoma. Several long pull-throughs with full hookups. Roads and sites are all concrete. Very nice.

Located on Grand Lake which is a beautiful and huge lake in Oklahoma, I spent every summer there growing up. Monkey Island and the Afton area are nice. If you have time go see the buffalo herds in Oklahoma, there are several and they are worth seeing!

Won't get to see them this time because we are on a tight schedule getting to .CA for our son's wedding. We should be back through here a couple of times a year, though, and maybe can make plans for that. As we were leaving Monkey Island, we saw another campground at Bernice Area at Grand Lake State Park, that looked really nice right on the edge of the lake.

No problems from the monkeys. That reminds me, though, of something from a recent trip to Arkansas. We were going to North Little Rock and spent the night on the way there at Crowley's Ridge State Park. We got there in late afternoon, got registered, parked, hooked up, and settled in for a nice, quiet, relaxing evening. We were watching TV and heard something "ping" off the roof of the motorhome. By this time, it was too dark to see anything outside, so we just shrugged and thought it must have been something falling off a tree - the parking spots were surrounded by large trees. We turned the TV off and went to bed and the frequency of the "pings" increased and continued throughout the night. It sounded like the roof was being strafed. In the morning, I went outside and looked. The tree we were parked under was an oak and there were hundreds of very small acorns all over the ground around the motor home. So, although the monkeys didn't bother us at Monkey Island, we might have been strafed by squirrels on Crowley's Ridge.[emoji11]
