Florida West Coast

My wife and I are planning a trip down the West Coast of Florida. We live near Crystal River and we'll start driving from here. We don't want to drive straight through and will likely stop at least once before we get to the Everglades.

Do folks have favorite spots you'd recommend? We're very new at this. We have a Freedom Express 24HE and two dogs.

Thanks a bunch!

Pete & Kathy Esche

You can’t beat the location of the Red Coconut Resort on Fort Myers Beach. We’ve never stayed there as my wife’s family has a house right down the street, but the sites on the beach are to die for. Perfect view and sunsets, and walking distance to all of FMB attractions and restaurants. We plan on making a trip down in the MH one of these days.

also make a stop at Sand Key, just over the bridge S or Clearwater ... a public beach, beautiful deep white sand, a point and jetty to watch the incoming vessels on the north end, and food and rentals available... all day parking $5, several large spots for RVs, and bathhouse and shower... bike riding and a dog park, too.

Thanks everyone. We ended up at the Red Coconut in Fort Myers Beach. We got lucky and ended up in site 3 beachside. It’s in the fourth row. It’s right next to Estero Blvd. I’m bringing earplugs. I’ll report back after we get down there tomorrow.

Pete

We have been to Ft. DeSoto a number of times. Very quiet and isolated. Watching the ships enter Tampa Bay is very cool.
Ft. DeSoto is not too far from Sand Key either. Try Frenchie's Cafe in Clearwater for great food too.
