Wife and I want to stop and see new Orleans.
Anyone know of State or Recreation.gov
Campsites open?
Many appear Flooded?

I have limited knowledge of NOLA just some brief visits but the internal of the city is tight and not big vehicle friendly. Big rig anything larger than an Accord. Last time we went we stayed at a Navy and marine reserve base in Belle Chasse and drove the jeep to the ferry terminal and took the ferry to town. Between walking and the trolly we saw the city. Perhaps others will know of an outlying parking area with a bus terminal close by.

Stop in Pat O'Brians and get yourselves a hurricane. Just let someone else drive They used to let you keep the glass, so could double as sort of a souvenir. The experience s worth the sit.

If your choice is not limited to State Park, you may want to check KOA in NOLA. Everything are back in sites. They have public parking in the city near the restaurant district. But I don't think your rig will fit in their open air slots. I saw few Class B when we went last July.

If you have a toad Lakeside RV Park in Livingston is a great place to base camp then head south across Lake Ponchartrain causeway to NOLA to see the sights.
As mentioned NOLA isn't big rig friendly so touring is better in a car, we made the mistake of going in a crew cab dually.

We’ve stayed several times at the French Quarter RV Resort. Very nice park and walking distance to the French Quarter.

We stayed in an RV park that was just a couple of blocks from the French Quarter-forget the name. Had no problems navigating our class A w/toad.

Fairview state park is north of the city on the river near Madisonville, la.
Slidell is East of the city about 30 miles and they have an RV park on the water.
Other places to try are some of the plantations.
Harvest Host has the Faubourg Brewery and some others.....
If you want to be in the city the French Quarter RV park is the place to stay. You can walk or Uber to the French Quarter. From Canal st you can catch a street car. Just riding the street car either to the end of the line at the cemeteries or taking the ST. Charles street car to the end will give you a pleasant way to spend a day. Tell the operator you want a day pass for$3.00. It will allow you to get off and on anywhere on the bus or streetcar routes if you want eat at Commander's Palace or just check out the Garden District.....you can take your time..... New Orleans is a 24 hr city.... Like any big city stay aware of your surroundings and be smart.

Just came back from 10 days in NOLA !
We stayed at French Quarter RV resort- loved it.
If you don't want to pay for hookups there's actually a city parking lot next door you can park at - saw several in there.

Most everything wide open in French quarter. They do have a vaccine card mandate for restaurants and bars-most didn't ask to see it though.

Great trip!

I used to have NOLA in my sales territory.
If you want a treat for fantastic food this is a great city. There is a reason there is lots of vascular disease in the area.
Mother's - breakfast place on Podryous sp??
Commander's Palace - expensive dinner
Brigtsen's Restaurant - my favorite- is uptown district and in a former house. Cosy and relaxed.

St. Bernard State Park is also close and a nice place to stay. Only a few miles from downtown NOLA…

We are staying at the New Orleans KOA Holiday in January. Supposed to be decent. (I hope) I is 25 minutes (12 miles) from the French Quarters.

I have been down there twice. We stay in the state park in Waveland MS. It is less than an hour east of New Orleans: great sites, inexpensive and usually not crowded. I am not sure about current conditions but it is a great location. You almost can throw a rock and hit the gulf. Beaches are not the least bit crowded. Works well if you are towing.
