Thumbs down North Myrtle Beach RV Resort and Dry Dock Marina

This used to be one of my favorite campgrounds until we arrived there for Thanksgiving 2019. We had the most beautiful spot 80-A and had ridden for 4 hours to get there and were settled in for app. 3 hours. I had my motorhome, tandem tow dolly, golf cart and Mini Cooper completely on the concrete and not on the grass. It seems that during bike week, earlier in the summer, the bikers had parked their enclosed trailers and bike trailers all over the park. The owner had changed the rules about keeping trailers and tow dollies on the spot. We were at the Walmart, when a lady from the office called my cell phone and told me they were going to move my tow dolly from our spot to their storage facility. I asked why, everything was on the concrete and not on the grass. She said they had sent out an email about the problem, which we did not receive. Long story short, my husband and I rode over and looked at their storage lot and it was not very secure. My husband asked Jennie, the manager if they had insurance to cover our tow dolly and she said no. The same tandem tow dolly had already been to their facility twice this year. We parked in front of the office when arriving and nothing was said about the tow dolly at this time. I am in the tow truck business and if a business charges storage, they are responsible for your property!!! The charge for keeping our tow dolly in the storage lot was $35.00. We had been to this campground two other times this year, and met the owner. He said he really appreciated our staying with them and if we ever had any problems or suggestions, to please get in touch with him. Jennie, the manager refused to contact him and explain the situation to him. Rather than argue with this IDIOT of a manager, we loaded up, made her give us a full refund and rode all the way home, the same day. I feel the correct way to handle the situation would have been to let us keep our dolly on our lot this time but when we returned the next time, it would have to be put in their storage lot. Needless to say, we will not be returning to North Myrtle Beach RV Resort in Little River, SC.

Issue is clearly addressed in their rules and restrictions on their web site.

Is a Tow Dolly considered a trailer?
"All trailers (utility, boat, etc.) must be parked in storage lot, NOT on your site. Fee may be apply."

Typically a tow dolly is not considered a trailer and does not need plates. Not sure if that also applies to a tandem tow dolly that the OP has.

The etc... would be the kicker. And if I were the owner, if I say trailers have to be in the storage lot I am going to include tow dollies so I don't have to put up if the "if they can why can't I" crowd.

I learned a long time ago, read the rules before making the reservation and if there are any concerns ask when making the reservation.

Also, if you go to Tandem Tow's website they call them trailers and not dollies.

Basically a live and learn situation.

Agreed-a "grace" should have been offered since you didn't receive the notice of changes. Most of us get into motor home life to get away from websites so don't fault Carole for not checking it.

Conversely, our favorite MH campground owners sent us a Christmas card with photo and handwritten note expressing their appreciation for "...always staying with us"!

Considering you’ve been there twice before with no issue it’s ridiculous to say you should had read the rules. It could had been handled better by the campground. The rule police types are usually not very good managers.

If you don't like or approve of their rules and regulations don't go back. Simple. It's their property and it appears it was noted on their web site, if you choose not to read it that's up to you.

If the rules changed since their two recent visits then there should be some discretion. If anyone says they read the rules every-time they ‘rebook’ a reservation them i call BS. But yes, rules are rules.

Actually we do ask about rules whenever we make a reservation whether or not it is a return trip to the same RV park. We ask about cancellation policies, refunds, fire pits, tow vehicles (especially when we dolly towed) and pet policies.

If someone doesn't conduct an adequate inquiry then they deserve whatever happens. If you don't want to follow the rules then get the hell out because there are plenty of folks that will.

I'd be willing to bet the RV Park also hands everyone a copy of the rules when they check in. I have been to numerous parks where rules have changed from visit to visit. Most of these changes are related to trash service, office hours or bath house hours.

That is how we operate and that is no BS.

After looking at what a Tandem Tow Dolly is (Basically a trailer) I would think a normal tow dolly might be allowed on site.
I was going to call to verify, but I am too busy posting on forums.

Yes a good manager would have waived or discounted the fee.
But unfortunately, "Customer First" policy does not apply Today.

I only read the rules after I am hooked up to everything at the campsite.

Tandem tow dolly is a trailer...tag required or not. Lesson learned.

You are correct. It is a sad state of affairs when folks think they are entitled, do not want to obey the rules, get upset at and complain about management when they enforce the rules and then expect to get sympathy from folks that do obey the rules.

Well said, it is a very sad state of affairs when folks do not want to take responsibility for their actions and then try to gain support from others in their quest for injustice.

Millennial snowflakes couldn't begin to compete with boomer flakes if it was an arrogance contest.
