I asked sister in law. She says if you take 26 to Folly Road (171) you will be fine. The roads are tight like everything there.

We had to make an emergency run there last month when my brother in law passed without warning. My sister in law is disabled from a stroke so we brought her to our place in central Florida.

The little yellow man on Google Maps is my best buddy. I use that feature all the time. Amazing.

Low Clearances and RVs

I appreciate your concern about low clearances. State Parks in Oregon and Washington are overgrown with trees. They will catch your awnings on the side not just the tops of your RVs. I took off a $2600 power awning in an Oregon state park. I was following a bunch of school busses and figured they would clear out the branches ahead of me. Not true. After the awning took a direct blow on the passenger side which pulled it out, wrecked the arms, motors and mounts, only thing salvageable was the wiring and interior switch, I checked the busses in front of me and found their roofs were full of branches and leaves.

that was not the only concern, my wife backed me up without checking above, and the rear ladder caught an overhead sign at a gas bar that would not dispense propane to a motorhome at the pump island, in spite of the fact we had called ahead and been directed to that exact spot.

I hate oversize vehicles!!!

Federal Standard for Interstate System is 16' unless otherwise posted.
I watched this video a few weeks ago, thus the reference to it in the OP. Someone has it out for Ryder. And, the 5er that ripped 3 A/C's off...and kept going. Idiot category. That bridge is posted with vehicle specific flashing warning lights. I've driven the normal routes for thousands of miles. My question was what do you do for "off the beaten path" routes. That welder for the steel bar at the bridge can get a job anywhere!!
Like you I have driven a multitude of commercial vehicles. I've never had this happen to me, but I remember a few times it could have if I had not been paying attention to the signs and flashing lights. And that was in the days before GPS and Google. My Google maps just recently took me through a residential area on the way to a lakeside resort. I was already committed when I realized it and kept an eye out for low things. Once at the resort I looked at the expanded map and saw the route I should have taken...1 mile down at the next exit.

My question...is there a setting on Google maps to keep you on "designated routes?" Or what is the best RV GPS system?

I was looking at the Garmin RV 770 yesterday and will probably click "buy now" today. I think this unit, along with the Atlas and a little pre-trip planning, will take care of most issues. Add the street views from Google Maps and all should be good. Famous last words!~

That's the one that I'm also looking at.
I've always had good luck with Garmins...

Another feature of the Garmin RV770 is they seem to release map updates on a regular basis. Those are updated via wifi.

The best one is the one between your ears: Always review a route before taking it. Especially if you haven't gone that way.

Yup! The Lifetime Map upgrades might take a while to upload; but at least you've always got current information.

I received my Garmin RV 770LMT-S today from Amazon, $349++. Huge display and the voice command is awesome! You can pick your fancy while driving with the voice commands and it will display them and direct you to them. If you pull up fueling stations, she will give details of the station along with phone numbers, etc. Does the same thing for campgrounds. If she's connected to your phone you can call them through the GPS and make reservations. My 550 had built in phone through the sync software...not sure I can connect that phone yet. Pretty fancy unit. Will give a report after Charleston trip this weekend. I'm as excited about this little toy as much as I am about the coach. I have a low RR bridge near the house...gonna go test her out. So far...worth every penny and I haven't driven the first mile.

And remember to watch for tree branches

We weren't paying enough attention last year - a road with lots of clearance, but a low-hanging branch that took out one of our cab lights. A cheap and easy fix, but I now pay much more attention to all the little things above the MH (which being a Thor Vegas is quite a bit lower than yours).

Recently we were traveling to Tybee Island, GA, driving on a four lane through town and there were low-looking, HUGE tree limbs across the road. At first, I was a little concerned because those limbs were BIG and would take an A/C completely off the roof but in my mind I was thinking, 18 wheelers drive down these roads so surely those limbs are high enough. Some had moss hanging from them, we had friends following us in their vehicle, he mentioned we had plenty of clearance but did brush some of the moss hanging down. No problems though.

That must have been Highway 80, "Victory Drive". Savannah is gorgeous but trees rule there. Some of the back streets on the south side of town are actually divided by huge oak "islands" where they paved around the trees. Gorgeous, historic town but you better watch the trees. And, River's End Campground looks like a sanctuary for Live Oaks. You are correct in that delivery trucks use the roads all day, every day but many of them are not as high as an over the road semi.

Yep...that welder can get a job anywhere!! I watch those videos a lot on YT. In every case...the low heights are clearly marked ahead of time...some with flashing lights. I've always said...if the person driving it isn't the one paying for it...watch out!!

It’s not about hating oversized vehicles, but it’s difficult relating to things we don’t appreciate. And excessive vehicle height is at top of my list because there are so many associated negatives.

When I look at modern motorhomes often in the 13-foot height range, and consider most humans are under 6 feet tall, I have to question why we need 7 extra feet of space above and below us. For some full timers all that extra basement storage room may make sense, but for me it would do more harm than good.

Sadly, days of 10-foot-tall Class A motorhomes that could go under most bridges and tunnels is a thing of the past.

If you think your MH is too big...stay in it for a week straight. Things get real small real fast. Not to mention...people get bigger and bigger. Bigger is Better...that's the American Way. McDonald's started it!!

No doubt people will get bigger if they eat at McDonald’s on a regular basis.

Just wish the RV industry had more choices on the menu for those who don’t want to die from a coronary.
