Brown County State Park in central Indiana. Nothing special, but beautiful, inexpensive and close to home. It’s been a favorite of ours for 25 years for short getaways.

Myrtle Beach SP, Myrtle Beach, SC

We originally expected to stay two weeks but dallied too long before actually calling for reservations and in the end could only get a W&E site. We had a ditch out behind our trailer so I dumped the gray water in it every night but still had to use the blue boy (30 gal) one time to dump black water because of all the visitors we had.

The facilities at the fishing pier and CG store provide just about anything one needs to stay there without having to leave the grounds. You’d have to be extremely unlucky not to catch some fish when using the pier. We were after trout and drum and ate a lot of fish that week.

Our trailer is 38’ but we had no problems transiting the park roads to get to our site or when maneuvering to get parked. The site was pretty flat and the trailer was easy to get level. (Deep Woods Off recommended). We had a very short walk to a bathroom with warm water showers. That was a life safer because of all the visitors we had.

We just spent a week on Lake Okeechobee. Beautiful, breezy and laid back. I think we found ourselves another hangout spot!

City of Pahokee Campground and Marina. It's the only campground that is inside the rim canal and directly on the open water. I wasn't sure what to expect, but we loved it and plann to return. Couldn't believe that it wasn't more crowded at this point in the season. (Snowbirds haven't all left yet!)

We stayed in Mesquite Nevada at the Casa Blanca Casino R V Resort several times. Another great place was in Tennessee at The Loretta Lynn's R V Campground.

They have about 40 sites, all on the water. Some are a little more cramped and there are only about 20 trees in the whole campground (of which our site had 4 of them!). They have Park Rangers who keep an eye on everything.

Their web site says 125 sites? Do I have the right one?
https://www.cityofpahokee.com/pahokee-campground-marina

And CG Reviews gives them 5.5?

You have the correct site. A lot of those 125 sites are tent sites and many don't have full hookups. They also have some cottages on some and what looked like permanent residents on a few. Some are also very short, too.

Thank you. What's your take on the 5.5 rating after personal observation?

The ratings are usually based on things like whether they have concrete pads, drive-thrus, Wi-Fi, cable tv, and other such amenities. Ratings are subjective in many cases. I am not disagreeing with that rating, 5.5 is probably warranted based on the rating criteria. We still liked the park and will definitely return. And yes, we have also been to two parks in particular here in our local stomping area that had ratings of 7.5 and 8.0 (Woodall's) that we want no part of in the future. Totally......your call!

Harmony, PA

Indian Brave CG

Harmony is just off US-19 north of Pittsburgh. We were following it all the way to PA-5 on Lake Erie.

This is one of those old back-to-back parking campgrounds. The infrastructure is old and mostly worn-out. When we were there the office was being run by young people that pretty much didn’t even want to give anyone but their friends the time of day, especially people like us that were just going to be there a day or two.

Almost all of the CG roads were worn down to gravel with pot holes in all turns and low points. Our sewer connection was basically just a hole in the ground with a rock covering it. No way to get a doughnut to work. I just put a board on our connection and a few heavy rocks to insure it stayed in the ground.

There are a lot of people living there full-time with junk everywhere. It’s definitely not a return-to place for us..

Berwick, ME

Because my husband is from rural Maine we travel there often. We stay away from the high $$$ RV Parks/CGs and use the rural family owned and managed ones. Normally if near the coastal highway US1 we are just a few extra miles from the attractions.

This picture was taken at the Beaver Dam CG at Berwick, ME. It provides a nice FHU with 50 amps and clear skies for dish reception. As the say up in Yankee land, it’s about a 15/20 minute drive to the malls at Kittery or Billy’s Chowder House on the causeway to Wells Beach.

We had left from a two week stay at Las Vegas and were heading to Lemoore, CA. This was about half way and almost clear of the desert country.

When this park was built, they avoided cutting down large shrubs and small trees. Many of the FHU sites were like ours, nestled in shrub/trees.

Schools and collages were out for the summer and most of the worker bees were students. I had to salute the manager. Every young employee we met was very likeable and helpful. It was an enjoyable change from the KOA we stayed at in Las Vegas at the Circus Circus casino/hotel.

I'm going to make a little suggestion here. Notice that our slides are in? We opted for a single 15K A/C when we ordered our trailer. W did it to save weight for an optional washer/dryer. In really hot weather, with the slides retracted during our absents it will cool the trailer way down and be very comfortable upon our return.
We had a similar Keystone Challenger 36TKB. Only had one Carrier ducted AC unit. We could never get it to cool below 80 in the daytime , in the Southeast, during hot high humidity summer months.

Circus Circus – Las Vegas, NV

The Circus Circus RV Park is KOA managed. Walking to the casino back door will put you on a people mover to the casino. Once there you can take another people mover out to the strip. Regullaty scheduled city busses move people up and down the strip all the way to down town.

Essentially the RV parking is on a paved parking lot with complete FHUs including CATV. But who cares? You’re probably just going to use your rig for snacks and sleeping.

We went to the top of the Stratosphere for pictures. It was late in the day and conditions were hazy.
