If you go to Asheville, I highly recommend Lake Powhattan located on the outskirts of the city near Biltmore Estates. If you have a Senior or Military Pass you qualify for a deep discount.

Very quiet, clean with nice updated showers. Can easily access BRP from the campground and if you are packing a people-powered bike there are many bike trails minutes from the campground.

This site reviews are spot on. Also check into Cosby Campgrounds and Townsend Campgrounds if you want more mountains and less Gatlinburg.
