Trip from CA to CO

We are headed from Sacramento area to Denver area in the fall and are planning our route. We plan to take hwy 80 and 40 one way and 50 and 70 on the return so we can see sights on both routes. Anything people recommend we stop and see? I should mention we have kids ages 4, 7, 16, and some young adults travelling with us.

If you are on 80 in Wyoming, and have the time..at Rock Springs go South to Flaming George...acually, from there, you can continue South to Vernal Utah, then on 40 to Dinosaur..to Craig & Steamboat Springs, then South to Denver area. All the ski resorts & Golden...and so much more if you venture out and about !

No suggestions really, but just wanted to say your trip sounds wonderful! I am chomping at the bit to get out on a nice long road trip, but hubby is currently so preoccupied with his classic cars, we just can't seem to carve out a chunk of time to get away!

The only suggestion I might add to a list of places to try see along the way would be the Bonneville Salt Flats, off I-80 just east of Wendover NV.

Hope your trip is an amazing one for all of you!

We visited Dinosaur many yrs ago, when it was just getting off the ground...recently, I saw a special on Discovery, I believe, .. the digs are more complete and it is well worth the time.
In Vernal, there is/was a campground set in a small valley.
Regarding Colorado...there are so many options..it all depends on how
far off I-70 you want to travel. There are many high altitude passes, some of which can be a challenge in an RV ..
Denver has the US Mint and several other neat attractions...Colorado Springs (south) has, in the area, Pikes Peak, 7 Falls, Garden of Gods (which I understand is not what it used to be)..Crested Butte is beautiful, Aspen...Salida is one of our favorite towns in southern Coloraodo.. Durango area in Southwest Corner has Mesa Verde near by...Silverton is an option...Ouray too. Both interesting and in beautiful area...if considering that area, including Telluride, you will want to check the hiway condition...as there has been major construction on it for the last several years and makes it tricky with an rv.

UTAH is awesome too...Arches National Park, on the east side...off I-70..
Canyonlands, Bryce, Zion and a number of beautiful areas in between.

Since you have some lead time...contact the visitors agency in each state you are visiting and each will send you an informative booklet with maps etc.

Have FUN !
