US 19 vs I75 South into Florida

Soon I will be traveling from Columbus, GA to Brooksville, Fl. I was thinking about using US 19 instead of I75.

Has anyone used US19 and can you tell me about the road conditions.

Thanks,

A lot of 19 is 4 lane and 65 mph but it does go through towns with stoplights and speedzones. If you don't mind adding hours to your drive it is a nice change of pace.

US19 is wonderful.... we've lived on it most of our lives and drive it N and S often... it will take you from Lake Erie all the way to S Pete Florida, thru our beautiful Georgia...

4 lane much of the way from Columbus/Americus GA thru Albany, Thomasville and into Florida thru Perry, Crystal River, Weeki Wachee, to Brooksville.... nice country. (we've stayed at Campers Holiday Travel Park there, too!)

you just made me have a thought.... we've ALWAYS lived right on US19 all our lives:
Ellaville GA
Americus, GA
Thomasville GA
Clearwater FL
St Petersburg FL
and now Western NC near Murphy and US19 !! Crazy... it must have an unconscious draw for us!

Going to Brooksville on 19 is not bad some small towns but it's not whiteknuckle like the freeway and you can just about 75 will get backed up from some idiot having a wreck I prefer to go 19 and we live in zephyrhills just south of dade city

Terry what about running 301 from 10 down to Zhills? We've been using 301 for years, never thought about 19

Wrong side of the state for one and then you have all the speed traps and massive congestion in Starke.

Thumbs down avoid I 75

We do everything to avoid I-75, but then we live just off 19 near Perry. Also we try to avoid all interstates

I used to live in Clearwater, very near US19. What I remember about it from about maybe Crystal River or so all the way south to ST Pete and beyond....was non-stop strip malls and stoplights.

I-75 can be a parking lot anywhere in the state of Florida. This time of year it sometimes doesn't matter even what day of the week or time of day. Last night around 8pm we drove from Sarasota to Ft. Myers. I-75 was very busy. I had cruise set on 77 and never passed another vehicle. Everyone passed me like I was going backwards!
