Utah Route 12 !

Just by chance we chose to take Utah route 12 from Torrey to Escalante ... well I think we must have been on the most beautiful road in the USA. Just amazing, little scary at spots, but a life changing experience. Drove it in our Thor Vegas 24.1... Breathtakingly beautiful. Lois Vegas

We've done it in our 24.1 also.
Are you headed to Vegas or North?

All of the casinos in Nevada will be closed as of Wednesday in case you are heading that way.

I'm sure you've looked at what to do in page, which is horseshoe or big bend or whatever they call it. There's not much else in page that'll consume more than an hour if you like dams.

If you're going to the grand canyon take the 64 at Cameron and stop at the little grand canyon. It's a quick stop at a spectacular gorge.
Food and stops are few and far in the area you're headed, be full of fuel and prepared to drive twice as far as you'd expect.
If you're headed east from page, canyon de chelle is the best thing in this whole state. The four corners Monument is the schmaltziest, most shameful spectacle of concrete and poverty I've ever encountered.
If you're headed sout to the 40,
Flagstaff is closed up except food take out. Black barts is an odd, clean rv park with an absolutely great(ish) steakhouse with singing waitstaff, but probably no food served now.

Keep us informed from there.
I don't know where you're headed but I suggest
Payson, greer, lunch or dinner at LA posada, a restored Harvey house in winslow(Winslow is otherwise depressing enough to make you cry).

The food at eltovar hotel on the south rim is very nicely served and has a nice menu.

Look up
Kelso california
There's an excellently restored Harvey house there.

The old 66 from exit 123 on the 40 into kingman is (I think) the longest stretch left that's kept up.

The Hackberry gas stationon the old 66 is one of the few places with more pictures taken than my mailbox row(we're big in Japan)

If you go south on the 64 out of the canyon headed south you'll drive right by my place.
If you wind up staying along the 64 or Williams and want a howdy or need anything pm me.

Theres not much to boulder, but i hope the dam is open for a tour.
I hope you have a reason to go to Nipton...we've been in sssooo many abandoned mines there....

Isn't the l old strip tease museum out there somewhere.?

I forgot one.
In vasalia or Fresno there is an underground hotel from maybe the 1930's
It comes and goes as a tourist thing. I think the last incarnation is as an undergroundish, trenches, amazing garden.

Salton sea and slab city is worth a jaunt through. NO ONE will ever top that story at a cocktail party.

Sounds like you're pretty familiar with the route. You cite food and fuel is few and far between. I have a toad for emers and avg about 7.5 mpg. Curious what mileage you get so I'll know if I can comfortably make it or will give up the beautiful scenery watching the gas gauge and driving on the edge of my seat.

I think the longest stretch in the area is now down to 82 miles. But the little stations come and go. I'd plan on 100miles and you'd be safe. We plan on 200 miles. Electric runs pumps, a storm means no gas.
We have never done less than 9mpg or over 10.5mpg on average in 13,000 miles.
We use torque and it gives me a very good display of percentage of fuel left and gallons per hour used.

We have TORN UP the area from Kanab Utah south to about Florence Arizona and all along the Arizona and California portion of i40.

Antelope Canyon outside Page was one of the highlights of our last trip--if it is still open.

Antelope

We drove our RV right to the canyon and walked in. Depends on tour operator and Upper or Lower I guess.

We did too, but when driving by last year we saw huge parking lots at the paved road.

Disregard. Only one place, unless you're an Elk.

Looks awesome. Is there any place to stay or did you just hit it on your way somewhere?

Would you mind going into a little more detail about 'scary'. Would like to take this route as soon as thee dust settles and things start to open up again. I'm at about 53' between motorhome and toad and noticed some hard curves along the route, though hard to tell from 'space'.

Thanks.

Utah Route 12

We also took Utah Route 12 south from Torrey a year a half ago. Did not want to drive I 70 on the way from Arches NP to Bryce Canyon so we went south on 191 and then north and west to Torrey. Yes the pass does get you up to 9200' but I do not recall any particularly difficult ascents, descents, or unmanageable corners.
Not sure on our OAL but Moho is 35' and the toad is a Cherokee.
Not a high speed trip but absolutely worth the views.
I hate freeways when there are reasonable secondary roads to get there.

Steve
