Washington, DC

I'm going to take my GKs to DC. We'll be coming in from the west on I66. Where's a good place to stay that has easy access to some kind of transportation into the city.

Check out Cherry Hill Park. The bus route runs right by the entrance and takes you to the train. In just 45 minutes you are on the Mall with no parking worries!

We did a 2 day gray line tour and saw a lot more than we would have on our own. Then we went back and spent more time in the Smithsonians.

If you are touring on your own, contact your congressional representative for White House, Senate and House tickets. That is if your trip is more than 3 weeks away.

Just stayed at Cherry Hill. Lots of activities for kids and as said above the bus stops at the park. The park also sells the metro cards

We did the night tour, very good, and the all day tour. Both done by the park

Be prepared to walk a lot. My feet still hurt

X3 on Cherry Hill Park. We've been to the DC area a few times now all staying at Cherry Hill. Its the best campground in the area (and not too far from Baltimore and Annapolis either if you want a nice change of scenery).

Easy to get to, even coming in on I-66--just take the Beltway around (I-495).

Have a wonderful time. Bring water to drink. There are plenty of really good food trucks all around the National Mall. Plan a couple of days to see the museums if that is your cup of tea and wear comfy shoes. We love the zoo, too. That is an all morning outing. (we live in Maryland and pop into town now and then. Great place for people watching!)

If you do not have a toad, go for Cherry Hill. If you have a toad look at Prince William Forest Campground or Pohick Bay or Bull Run. They are all within an easy driving distance to a metro station. And easy to get to from 66.

If you are military or DOD civilian, Ft Belvoir also has a nice campground.

We also recommend Cherry Hill

We stayed at Cherry Hill in 2016. It’s the perfect park to use as a base to visit DC. We were there for our teachers association’s national meeting and we were able to get into the city for our 7 am meetings in 30 minutes or under on the Metro. The pic was taken at our campsite.
