Water Hook-up or Not

I'm in Yellowstone in the middle of a winter storm. I was talking to another RVer at lunch. He said that his RV Park told him to disconnect the city water when it freezes. I'm at the KOA and they said nothing. It is 32ºF and I can't draw from the city water. I did fill my fresh water holding tank to 2/3 full yesterday in preparation.

Who is right? Hook-up the city water or not?

My general rule of thumb is to fill my fresh water tank and then disconnect the hose when temps get to freezing or below. Some RV parks I have been in will turn off the water main when the temps hit freezing and they may or may not notify folks.

A point to consider, do you want to replace your water hose if it freezes and splits? Also, a frozen hose, even when empty, is hard to roll up when leaving on a brisk morning.

its not 'hooking up' to park water thats the issue, its whether YOUR water hose will freeze.

Camping in Iowa mid Oct the nights did get below 32. The hose was the frozen part, disconnected it and let the sun do its thing. If its going to be a hard freeze the park will turn the water off for the year.
As for your question one park was nice to inform you and the other may have felt you hould know.

We always carry a heated water hose just in case. Even though on our current summer travels we shouldn't need it.....never say never. We will be staying in a couple higher elevation CG's and you never know.

Without a heated hose I would certainly unhook and use my tank as others have said.
