Memphis to Grand Canyon

We live near Memphis TN and planned a trip to the Grand Canyon over our kids fall break (early October). I wish we would have had a little more time for the trip, as it was lots of driving in a short time, but we had a blast and seeing the west for the first time was a big hit!

We ended up driving 3,069 miles in 63hours 41 minutes driving time over 9 days, and averaged 8.5mpg.

Stop 1:
Lake Eufaula: Checotah OK
Campground: Lake View Deep Ford
Campsite # DF089
We got here late and left early, we never saw the lake in daylight but I was able to capture this sunrise pic, it seemed beautiful there!

Stop 2:
Santa Rosa Lake: Santa Rosa Lake NM
Site: A07 Loop: Rocky Point A Loop

Our kids loved this park and the views were amazing.

Stop 3:
Holbrook Petrified Forest KOA:
Petrified Forest was a huge hit and the KOA in Holbrook was very nice.

Stop 4:
Grand Canyon - Trailer Village RV Park
We stayed here for 3 days. On the 2nd day, the weather turned cold and snowed. Our kids loved the snow but we were not prepared for it and didn't have proper attire.

Stop 5:
Santa Rosa Lake: Santa Rosa Lake NM
We were supposed to go to Monument Valley to stay the night and come back home through Colorado. However, with the snow we experienced at the Grand Canyon we didn't want to chance it and rerouted the trip back to this campground.

Stop 6:
Foss State Park Campground Foss, OK
Modifying our trip to return home back through I-40 allowed us to stay at this park a day earlier. The people were great about getting us rescheduled and the park was very nice.

Very nice. Lots of driving with 4 kids. You must be awesome parents. I enjoy long hours of driving butat 68 years old it is just my wife and 2 dogs.

We modified our table setup to allow all 4 kids to have their carseats at the table. At the last minute I rigged up a monitor to allow them to watch movies while on the road. They are pretty great kids and loved seeing everything!
