Lake Cumberland is great, especially for boating.

As for Lake Superior, I've never been to that campground, but love Lake Superior. My favorite is Pukaskwa NP just south of Marathon, ON. Second favorite is Lake Superior PP. The eastern short of Lake Superior in Canada is also a very beautiful drive.

Several campground on the list above have no water front sites. I won't publish my list because I have spent several years camping in the NE and finding campgrounds with water front sites and they are always crowded. These are mostly state and USFS campgrounds in NY, Mass and Vermont. All have a half dozen or more water front sites where your campsite directly overlooks the water.

But I will note one campground far from home, Jordan Lake State Recreation Area, which is west the Raleigh/Durham area. It has tons of beautiful, water front sites.

David

That is what I call water front camping.

When we stayed on the banks of Lake Superior we were at the city campground in Grand Marais, Michigan: Woodland Park.

https://www.burttownship.com/recreat...rk-campground/

If you're going to do a UP tour a stop in Houghton, Michigan can be fun and their city park is also quite convienient being right downtown:
https://www.cityofhoughton.com/rv-park/

Going South you may want to stay near Mackinac Island (of course you can't camp there you have to stay in either St Ignace in the UP or Mackinaw City in the LP). Mackinaw Mill Creek has some spots available on the beach but it is a huge resort type family friendly campground:
https://www.campmackinaw.com/

Finally, one of our favorite campgrounds is an Ontario Provencial Park (granted its a bit of a pain going there for now and I think they are closing down for the season soon but still): The Pinery Provencial Park on the shore of Lake Huron is a great spot for a long weekend.
Welcome to Pinery Provincial Park

10 Best RV Parks & Campgrounds With Lakes

https://rvlife.com/campgrounds-with-...m_medium=email
We have made four of them over the years. By far the most interesting is Caddo Lake (the largest natural lake in Texas). The boat tours leave Uncertain, Texas (or KarnacK) and go through the abandon oil fields past, the river boat turning basin (dug in 1890) and up to the river landing at Jefferson, Texas. The boat is covered to keep the Water Moccasins from dropping from the Bald Cyprus into the boat. <https://cityofuncertain.com/caddo-lake-tours/>
The Mississippi/Red River was not navigable by steam river boat up to Jefferson, TX until the Army Corps of Engineers contracted with Capt Shreve to clear the snags and rafts from the Red River in 1832.

True but when we camp ..for example from Montana to TN,SCNC,AL,TX,MO,AZ,NM,NV,UT. WE have no set dates just places chosen so that we can arrive whenever and stay as long as we want. Will do same for these lake places. Appreciate all the reviews

Haven't been to any on the list but have done a couple of the regions. Honestly can't see how anything in East Texas could end up on a list of places to visit.

IU didn't look at that site but if you want water sites, consider COE.

Lake Moomaw in the Allegheny Highlands in Virginia is really nice, with very nice USFS campgrounds (no hookups).

Second the COE campgrounds. They are often our first go-to if we are near one.

There is a book that gives brief descriptions of the various COE locations state by state and the facilities available. Most have electric & water with FHU in some cases or at least a dump station available.

Every COE site we've been to has been very clean and well maintained. Within the last 2 weeks we've been at Carlyle Lake in Illinois and Council Grove Lake in Kansas. Both very nice, tranquil spots with either water front site or view even though in both cases we arrived FCFS without reservations. I imagine in peak season they are busier and reservations would be advised.

Also as mentioned, many nice water front campgrounds on Lake Superior in Michigan's upper peninsula (UP) near Picture Rocks NLP. The southern side of the UP along Lake Michigan also has numerous national forest and state park campgrounds on the water. Big Bay De Noc was lovely when we were there in 2019.

Many eastern Oklahoma lakes have excellent MH parks. Many of them are State Parks or COE parks.
Eagle Rock COE park in SE MO. is limited in campsites to 32, and only has electrical at sites, with bathouses, water and dump station nearby. $21/day.
