Ace 30.2 slide out awning carrier

The center carrier for the awning in trying to tear my awning. The awning is rubbing against the frame of the carrier and not on the rollers. What a poor design this is . Anyone got any ideas. There are only 3 rollers if I could find some that would work I might add a few more.

Mine punched a small hole in the topper and I suspect it will get worse over time. I haven’t had a chance to repair and adjust it yet, but my initial thought is that there is a spring in the carrier that is too strong.

I had my carrier off thinking the rollers need to be lubed. There are no springs in the carrier, I feel they just did not put enough rollers, mine is just rubbing the carrier itself.

Hmmm... then I suppose the design flaw would be in the shape of the rollers (they should be tapered) or the length (they should be longer). Not sure how to fix that, but I’ll be looking for a way before mine starts to tear. Bummer.

Ace 30.2 slide out awning carrier

Is it rubbing on the aluminum frame end of the roller carriage?
If so I’d use a die grinder to take a little off the aluminum then touch it up with some black paint. I just checked my 30.2 for this and mine has a decent space between the rolled fabric and the aluminum.

Mine is also rubbing on the frame below the inside top roller. The paint is worn off and it is ruff compared to the other side. I thought about using a die grinder on it but since I always do a over kill on everything I am going to put the center roller where the wear spot is and put some 22mm ball bearing where the center roller was. I will send some pics when I get all parts in. I saw a post in another forum where a person had the same problem in 2012

Yeah, I came here to mention a similar solution. Rather than grinding down the carrier, replacing the rollers with larger ones seems like the easier path.

Eyeballing some skateboard wheels.

Had same thoughts but mine only touches the very top roller on the inside. I already ordered the bearing etc ( about $5 for 10) so it will give me something to do while we are at this RV park. Domestic should be the ones fixing it because people had the same problem over 7 years ago.

If you don’t mind snapping before & after pics, and adding a link to what you purchased, that’d be awesome.

I will take as many pics as I can and I will share where and what I used. I am going to get me some of the awning repair tape and put it on while I have the carrier off.

I took a better look at mine today and noticed the wear in the awning is where the lower (shorter) roller edge touches the awning.

This where mine rubbed. Does not look like much but was enough to put holes in my awning. I cut some of the frame and installed another roller and it is not rubbing the frame anymore. Still waiting on parts to finish job
