V10 Ace. What kind of gas do you put in it?

We have a 2016 Ace 29.3 and I have always put the lowest (cheapest) gas in it. Twice, we experienced "surging" but in both cases it went away ....after 50-100 miles. Ford put it on their computer and could not find any problems... do you think the grade of gas has any affect on it? Thanks for your input.

Nope; you always want to put "low-grade" or "Economy" fuel in for the V-10.

The only time you put mid-grade or premium is if you get a 5-Star tune for those fuels.

I had surging in my 2010 V-10 several times and it was due to water in the fuel. Both times it happened right after a refueling and once I watched the fuel truck pull into the station as I left indicating I had purchased fuel from a near empty tank. Both times I quickly added a can of Seafoam to the tank which solved the problem. If you had water in your tank, some may still be there. A $10 can of Seafoam is cheap insurance.

X2 on the Seafoam, also an occasional tank of premium/super will help clean the fuel system.

Seafoam will also help clean your engine just as importantly clean your generator. Surging in the generator is often a dirty engine and Seafoam will help clean it out and keep it running.

Times 3 on the Sea Foam. But at least on my 2015 34E MH it shows
on the sticker near the driver to use 87 or better octane gas.

I normally use 85 octane gas and then add a couple of cans of Sea
Foam to my tank. One can is usually good for 25 gallons and I have
a tank that holds about 80 gallons of fuel.

Which costs more? Fill with 87 octane or two cans of SeaFoam and 85 octane gasoline?

My 2 cents....

Fuel quality can certainly affect how an engine runs, but running octane rating higher than necessary won't help in my opinion.

My V10 (2-valve model) just turned 150,000 "easy" miles last night driving from Texas to Florida, and I have never had any surging or other problems. While I only run 87 Octane, I buy it mostly from Exxon or other major brand (Shell, Texaco, Chevron, etc.). I avoid all generic fuel stations.

I trust (perhaps I shouldn't ????) that major brands have higher quality control and use better fuel additives. There is a lot of controversy on this subject, so I play it safe even though it cost a bit more. On the other hand, I won't pay for higher Octane.

Your Ace has the 3-valve V10 but that in itself shouldn't make a difference.

We have storage tanks here all the stations get it from the same place. The problem is that different octans are in same storage tank separated by water.

We have noted that all the stations in Cody WY seem to get there gas from the same (or maybe one other) distributor. But could you explain what you mean by the same storage tank separated by water? Thanks.

85 octane is only sold out west, as far as I know. Regular gas east of the Mississippi and many states west, is 87 or above octane gas. The first time I took my RV out west, I put in 85 octane before I realized that it existed and I got engine knock and reduced power. The engine specs call for 87. I would not use 85, especially in mountainous areas.

I worked for an oil company for 30+ years & ABSOLUTELY NO fuel products are seperated by water, that is highly regulated.

Please be sure to post where the product stored in these tanks is going so that everyone can avoid buying any of their products. l worked for an oil company for 30+ years & there are ABSOLUTELY NO products seperated by water, product quality is constantly checked & highly regulated.
Most all fuels in any given area come from whichever refinery or two is closest to that area, you could be buying Shell fuel at a Chevron or vice versa, & they all purchase from whichever is cheapest today.

Aren't additives added after initial fuel sourcing?
