Water Heater Plug Tool
Found this on thingiverse, plug removal tool for hot water heaters.
Designed for the Atwood heaters with the nylon plug. Saves digging out the socket set to remove or refit the plug.
I haven't tried it yet as I had to come to work, I'll try it and post on how it works.

Too big and bulky, needs a redesign to work better.

Clearance problem getting it around the Propane feed tube for the water heater? Please post a photo showing the problem.

It's plastic. Any less beefy and it wouldn't be able to provide the needed torque without breaking.

Ted, it needs the shaft to be longer to allow the handle to clear the bottom of the door frame and the hex is too large for my plug, it’s 1 1/16”. It will be strong enough for the nylon nut but wouldn’t even try it on an anode version.
Dan, it’s easy enough to wiggle under the propane connector if I make the necessary changes.
I’ll have a play with the file when I get time. If I’m successful I’ll post an update.

I bought the Camco replacement plugs and flat wrench. I have lost 2 plastic plugs with the depressed center failing. Once the campground manger turned off the water and woke me up at 4 am. Fortunately I had a spare. The second one failed while I was out grilling. Now I just change them every two years, just encase. I drain the water every time we are going to be home for more than a month. Yes I use a pressure regulator with a pressure gauge.

A regular socket and t wrench or ratchet and spare plug taped in a handy place nearby negates any search and it removes the worry of plastic, printing stratification, degradation, uv.
My batteries have specific tool kits ziptied to them.
Easy removal.
No search
No guess
No fail.
Yardsale tools so no set broken up.

That is why best practice is, turn off the water pump and city water at the hydrant when you leave the coach or go to sleep. If you need to pee during the night turn the water on to flush and off when done.

Rework
Once I modify the file to get the shaft longer and the drive at 22mm then I'll print one in PLA+ as a test.
If it's successful then I'll print another in ABS and keep it in behind the water heater door.

Best is to never use shore water as supply water.
Ridiculous things happen, or can happen.
Always tank and pump.
Off when it's off, on when you ask.

Don't even need to do that if you have a surge tank. Generally, one of the first mods I add to a new RV.
