Roof top Air conditioning

Sounds weird but here it goes ....
if I run the fan alone I get clean fresh air.
Once I turn the A/C on I get a very nasty musty smell.
The little cabin filters are clean.
What could it be? Dead stick bugs in AC unit? Mold in duct work ?
I’m lost as to what to do....

You might need to clean your evaporator and / or check your drip pan. If the drain for the drip pan is plugged you might have some stagnant water building up.

Well, I checked everything out and it all looks good. So I cranked up the AC and wouldn’t ya know it.....no musty smell.
The smell came when we were camping at a local campground. So I think something in the outside air... oh well... it’s better now!
Got the generator running for its monthly exercise and running AC too. So far so good!
