2017 Thor ACE 30.3 degrading upholstrey
hello. we own a 2107 Thor ACE 30.3 (bought new). we are not nor been hard on the upholstery however the original pleather(?) upholstery is degrading - it is cracking, peeling, shredding off of the driver/passenger seats and flaps, dinette seats and backs, jack knife bed....we are constantly having to sweep the flaking leather off the floor daily.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? when looking at new rv's, dealers told us Thor stopped using the (ir)responsible vendor around 2022. should we not trade up we are considering re-upholstery. please let me know if you have also experienced this degrading upholstery and what you did to remedy your problem.
thank you

No.
You're the only person to mention such a thing.
You've been a member for over four years and yet we have not been a vehicle for knowledge about rv's.
How have you missed the THOUSANDS OF POSTS ABOUT THIS?

Yes to all. The first replacement try was with Rec Pro vinyl covered love seat and that furniture failed by pealing after 2 years (one year warranty). The second try we went with woven fabric from Rec Pro and it is holding up well after 2 years. The dinette is holding up well but the captain's chairs need replacing. I suspect the replacement will be new Shop4Seats captain's chairs this winter.
The best vinyl covering simulating leather is "Ultraleather" a trade name Ultra Fabrics should you want to recover the furniture.

I’m not sold on Shop4Seats ultra/faux leather.
Based on other’s experiences, in fairly short order their material will flake & peel like Thor OEM.
As I’ve written about this in other posts, I opted to have my peeling/flaking couch re-covered in a durable furniture fabric at a local upholstery shop
My cost was $1200 labor & foam + $250 fabric
- The most difficult part for most in the DIY process is disassembling the furniture. (Hint: take plenty of photos)
- Then take the pieces to your local upholstery shop where they will give you the yards of fabric needed & a labor price
- Finally, you can either use their over-priced fabric, or purchase your own from Joann’s/Micheal’s to save $$$
- Also, make sure you add a good quality foam as desired for comfort
Here my before & after couch:

I ask adult questions of adults.
I ask them in a fashion that is not easily ignored.
I ask situation.
What's the situation that has caused you to not look occasionally at a forum you've been a member of for four years? Why didn't you ask when the problem first started?
Had they answered
Prison
Hospital
Overseas duty
I'd have offered to go to their home if close enough and fix their problem for them.
If they answer
Pure sloth
We need to know wha we're dealing with.
Telling someone without a working knowledge of sewing machines;
'This is how you make a parachute for your daughters upcoming first skydive'
Is not helpful.
If I'm going to do the deep dive of 40 minutes (like some of us do here when a question warrants it) I want to know what steps have been taken already so the steps aren't duplicated.

Management has no qualms about taking down a post they think is out of line. It's their call.
In fairness
I was too snarky and I do partially apologize to the op.
I'm still interested in how they use this forum and if they'd like instruction on the search function.

You need to view as you got 7 years out of the sofa and almost about to be 8 years. I am pretty sure you did not buy the RV because you felt the sofa was the highest quality available. Some people report what you are reporting with 1st year or two.
I personally think the many RV Sofa links I have seen was too pricey, I am glad i done have the issue because if I did, I may do what you are thinking which is to have it re-upholstered. I love my sleeper sofa.
Also,
FWIW, the Search is actually pretty useful, but you may have to play with it to understand what it does. But I did the search for you, so you can read as much as you like on the topic.
https://www.thorforums.com/forums/se...archid=5027078
At the end of the day, just get a new sofa or re-upholster what you got

Our 16' Vegas sofa started flaking about a year back, I had it reformed and reupholstered and I'm very happy with the result. Cost, here in NIreland, was around $450. This summer I noticed the the front seats doing the same, they'll be a winter project. Anyone know if I can remove just the seat base covers ?

Yes - both my dinette cushions and my couch - replaced the couch with recliners and had new cushions made 8 months ago ($250) .... having the same issues with those... Plether is not the way to go... thinking about my next option as leather or cloth to match my recliners range from $400 to $900 (several quotes . Will be interested to hear other responses/ideas

We have a 2017 Plazzo we bought it used 2 years ago all looked good then but now the flaking on seats at table, drivers and passenger seat and it’s starting on couch. My thought cheaper to re-upholstery then start fixing a new unit and working out the bugs.

I agree with you 100 percent and if I see a response from him/her I move to another place that tries to help in a positive manner rather than his/hers. Don't see why they allow his sarcastic and inappropriate comments.

I had my sofa and dining cushions reupholstered with marine grade material. They look like new.
$1500 total.
Any good upholstery shop can do.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH ….. for calling out ducksface!!!! The majority of his responses are unnecessary, degrading and un-called for!! I too, have addressed him personally more than once, with no results. I have NEVER had to constantly deal with such an arrogant AHOLE on Fleetwood, Foretravel, Beaver or other forums I have been a member!!!
I purchased a 2019 Hurricane over a year ago, looking forward to learning from the Thor Forum. I will no longer post ANY questions on this forum!!
I don’t understand WHY … whoever is in charge of this site, would allow such a person to continue posting on this forum!
People get blasted for not searching for the answer to their questions, before asking …. Again, don’t know who is in charge of this site, but their “Search” option SUCKS!!!!!!
I’ve put in VERY SPECIFIC topics, and either you get a “to many words for this search”, or you get results that have NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with the topic you entered!
I’m looking forward to selling my Hurricane in the Spring and going back to a Diesel Pusher, which we owned 3 times before!!!! Then, I will NEVER see this FORUM again!!!! I encourage EVERY person who inquires about a Thor RV, to look elsewhere, and to avoid this forum!!

We've got a 2016 29.3, major upholstery peeling issues.
This year we had the dinette and captain chairs upholstered by a local guy with marine grade vinyl and new foam. Replaced the sofa with theater seating from Bradd & Hall, but we sent them the same marine grade vinyl so everything would match.
Wasn't cheap but we're extremely happy with the results.

We have a 2019 thor challenger had same flaking, if your happy with the coach other then the upholstery then keep it. Look for a tag on dinette cushions and the flap at bottom of driver and passenger seats if they say Williamsburg Furniture you can call them. We gave them the number on the tags, that's the pattern, they said they still had the patterns so we picked a new color in Ultrafabrics Ultraleather and they made all new covers and we installed ourselves. Very easy and much cheaper than new Furniture or taking to a shop for recovering. We're full-time so didn't have to be without Furniture while in a shop. Still very happy with covers, look factory. We didn't like the theater recliners so we ordered power theater recliners from Lambright same dimensions with same Ultrafabrics ultraleather to match and installed ourselves.
