ďOnan 4000 Generator Oil Type
The type of oil you should use depends a lot on the outside temperature in the area you are running it in. For those areas that are 32 degrees F and higher, you can get away with using a 30W oil. For lower temperatures, you can drop to a 15W40, a 10W30 or 10W40 and for extremely low temperatures, you should use a 5W30.Ē
Yes, but I went to south Texas last month expecting temps in the 60s and 70s. Instead, I found myself without power and needing to cold start the generator at 4:00AM with an outside temp of 14 degrees. It fired right up - thankfully - and ran for many hours over the next several days. Why not simply cover your bets and use the recommended multi weight oil in the first place?
